Marjorie, I've always thought that the 14 year old in Navarro was Alfred Augustus, but I have no proof. I've never been able to find CC and Malissa in the 1870 census, but I believe they were also in Navarro during that whole time. Malissa had a child born September 11, 1870 and family sources say it was in Navarro CO. I need to do a line by line search of the entire county for them, but just haven't done it, I also need to dig through the pile of notes and recheck the exact dates, because sometime between 1872 an 1877 CC and Malissa divorced and then remarried....by 1880 they were in Erath CO. In 1880, there was a 14 year old male A. Dover, age 14, living in Navarro, Texas with James W. Meador, age 21, his wife Mary E. 18, and a son James 1. I originally thought this A. Dover was Alfred the son of Campbell Carter Dover (haven't found him in 1870 or 1880); however, the Texas birth index lists a Delores Ann Dover born December 6, 1931 in Cherokee County, AL to Alfred Lafayette Dover and Ottice Dolan Meador. Must have been Alfred Lafayette Dover in Navarro in 1880. Marjorie Dover Stansel

Here's what I have on Jason A. Dover, son of Frederick and Margaret (Buncombe, Rabun, Buncombe, Gilmer) (from Ancestry, FTW, and personal research): In 1850, Jason A. Dover was in Buncombe County, NC. He was 27 years old. He had two children, a son Hilary I. age 7, and a daughter, Martha M. age 4. Also in the household was his wife Penny Dover, age 38. Since the name Penny has been ascribed to Jeptha as his wife, as has the Ledford and Scroggs wives of Jason, it may be that it was Jason who married a Penny and NOT Jeptha. Jason Dover was in Gilmer County, Georgia in 1860 (Subdivision 33). He was 38 and farming and born in NC. "Perry" Dover, a female is 43 (should be Penny). Hilery J. is 14, and Martha M. is 12. Jason served with his brothers and cousins in Company F, 60th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia. 1st Sergeant: A.E. Dover; Bailey Dover, D. H. Dover, David M. Dover, Dillen Dover, H. J. Dover (son of Jason), J.A. (Jason) Dover, and James Dover. In 1870, Jason was back in North Carolina, at Hayesville, Clay County. He is 52 years old and farming. Wife Penny is 59 years old. Their daughter Martha, age 23 was still at home. Martha M. Dover m. J. J. Curtis October 26, 1871, R. G. Ketron; grooms father was A. W. Curtis; bride's father was J.A. Dover, Hayesville. Sometime between mid 1870 and 1874, Penny Dover passed away. On November 15, 1874, J.A. Dover married Malinda Ledford in Clay County, NC. Between November 15, 1874 and 1880, Malinda passed away. In 1880, Jason A. Dover was living at Hayesville in Clay County, NC. He was 50 years old and a widower. He was a cabinet maker and was living alone. J. A. Dover and Elizabeth Scroggs were married September 19, 1880, R. G. Ketron, Clay County Marriage register; parents: Frederic and Margaret Dover; David and Mariah Scroggs, David Scroggses resident. Between 1880 and 1895, Elizabeth apparently passed away. In White County, a J.A. Dover married Sallie Allen Mar 14, 1895 B216. In 1900, Jason A. Dover (indexed as Daver), age 77, a farmer, was living at Mossy Creek in White County. He states he has been married for 53 years. His wife, Sarah A. says she was born in May of 1837 and has been married 53 years also (that would make her marrying at age 10, so she must have been born earlier). The census doesn't ask how long they were married to "each other" just how long they were married. Jason states he was born in North Carolina and that both Frederick and Margaret were born in SC. Jason Dover died July 1, 1903 and is buried at Mossy Creek United Methodist Church in White County, Ga. In 1910, Sarah Ann Dover, age 70 (b. 1830) is listed as an Aunt living with Mary and Perry Humphries in White County. Georgia Bible records show Jason A. Dover was married December 9, 1841. Jason A. Dover was born February 17, 1823; Hillery J. Dover was born October 23, 1843; Emily Malinda Dover was born March 10, 1844 (died before 1850); Martha Dover was born September 1, 1846; Mary Caroline Dover was born February 9, 1851; and Clearsa E. Scroggs was born July 30, 1850 (third wife's daughter). Marjorie Dover Stansel
From the Pitts Theology Library at Emory University in Atlanta: Dover's Chapel was formerly known as Flat Branch Methodist Church and was organized in 1849. In 1907, the name was changed to Dover's Chapel in honor of Mr. Dillon Dover, "a confederate veteran and a great singer in that day and time." There is also a list of the pastors of Dover's Chapel, which I can transcribe if it would be of assistance to you. This information comes from an undated, one-page historical statement, which is the only history we have of Dover's Chapel. Marjorie Dover Stansel
Think my hunch about Jeptha being the great grandfather is incorrect. Problem with the year of birth (14 Feb 1884) for Belt (Belton)(David B)(David Belton Dover). There's a photo Willie D. If he had had a stroke (which usually leaves one side of the body paralyzed), he probably would not have been able to write. I would suspect if the paralysis was caused by a stroke that he would not have lived long after that occurred. The fact that he lived a year without being able to walk is remarkable.
