Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/pRT.2ACEB/497.1 Message Board Post: The following is all I have (from Ancestry.com) databases: Huey Dover (SSN 423-24-3611) was living in Birmingham (Jefferson County), AL when he died September 1981. He was born November 1, 1894. The Alabama Death records for this date are not available online; however, that should be your first search. If you live in the area, you can probably pick up a copy of his death certificate if you don't already have one. Usually, the funeral home provides one or more copies to the family. Huey P. Dover, age 24, born in Alabama (says his father was born in Georgia), and a wife Roxie A. age 16, were living at Joppa in Cullman County, AL in 1920. They were living next door to Harman Dover, age 67, who was the son of Madison Dover. Harman had apparently remarried since the last census, and his new wife Sarah E. had a couple of stepsons in the household. Their last name was Rice. No son with the name or age of Huey appears, however, in the household of Harman in 1910, so it would appear that Huey is not the son of Harman. There must be some relationship, however, between the two. In 1930, Huey was living at Holly Pond in Cullman County. He was 34, married at 33 to his current wife. She was Zula M. age 17, married at 16. There was a 3 year old son named James E. so perhaps he was Huey's son by his first wife Roxie. Perhaps some others on the Dover List (www.rootsweb.com) can provide some additional information.

From Ancestry.com census records: In 1920, Martha E. Dover McNabb, age 21, b. AL, is married to Fred R. McNabb, age 22, a finisher in a furniture factory. They are living at Chattanooga in Hamilton County, TN. Daughter Edna Adina Dover is 3 years old. Herron Clifford is 1 yr 5 months. Living with them is Ara C. Dover, age 29, and her 1st husband, Roy L. Cotnam, age 33, a minister of the Church of God. Ara is listed as an evangelist of the Church of God. I didn't find Fred and Martha in 1930. In 1930, Ara and Roy are at Fort Worth in Tarrant County, TX. Ara C. is 39, and Roy is 43. He is a lecturer. They have a daughter, Leota J., 4 years old. He married at age 20, and she married at age 16. There is a draft registration form for Roy Cotnam that provides additional information if anyone wants to check it out. Marjorie Dover Stansel
I haven't seen much on Mance and this and the 1900 census record is all I can find on him. I do have a note that he died in 1953, but I found no death records to support this: On September 12, 1881, Mance Macklin Dover, b. September 12, 1881, age 31, living on Black Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was an auto line welder (can't read his employer). His next of kin was America Dover, Chattoona, TN. He signed his name Mance Dover. He was medium height, medium build, blue eyes and brown hair. Marjorie Dover Stansel

I think all the Dover family members always had a "5th" cousin living next door that they didn't know they were related to--certainly true for most of us. I did find that one of the two sons of Grady Dover (Ronnie Gene Dover) died in 1997. I'm still "trolling" Texas records to see what name James Dover was using when he died (so far no luck). Here is what I've found thus far on James Jeptha Dover after he appears in the 1880 census with his parents and the 1900 census with his mother (some of the children's names are problematical): In 1910, James J. Dover was living in Polk County, TN, District No. 9. The census was taken April 22-23, 1910. He was 36 years old, born in Georgia (both parents born in Georgia). He was a laborer for the railroad. His wife Bertha was 23. They had been married 8 years; Bertha had 3 children and 2 are alive. The children in the home were: William, 6, b. TN, and Bernist?, 4, born in Texas (why was he in Texas?) Polk County, TN shows a death for Ader Dover, age 3 days, 9th District, Polk County, TN, d. Feb 9, 1910 (cause unknown). On September 12, 1918, James Jeptha Dover completed his draft registration card. He lived at Route 3, Lyerly, Chattooga, GA. He was 45, born August 23, 1873. He was a farmer for "Mack" Hogg at Lyerly, and his next of kin was his wife, Bertha Dover. He signed his name. He was short, medium build, blue eyes and light hair. (Mack turns out to be Mark or Marcus Hogg which is how I found him next). In 1920, James J. Dover was living at Lyerly (listed as Subligna), Chattooga County, Ga. (indexed as Jas ??) He was 46, born in Georgia, and a farm laborer. Mark Hogg was nearby. Wife Bertha was 35, Willie was 16. Bernest (m) was 14, Berl (m) was 7, Ernest was 5, Ollie (f) was 3-1/2, and Grady was 9 months old. In 1930, James appears as John J. Dover in Precinct 2, Ellis, TX (Palmer and Neck Road). He is still 46 and a farm laborer. His wife Bertha is now also 46. She married at 17, and he married at age 27. The children are: William is 26, Bernest is 24, Burrell is 18, Earnest (looks like Tarnest) is 15, Ollie is 13, Grady is 12, and Pauline is 7. All the older boys are farm laborers. There is a Neck Road which runs through Palmer, Texas. I've been able to track Grady Dover through the Ancestry.com online records: I don't have a marriage date but his wife's name (Ruby Inez Chauvin) is listed on the following two birth records in Dallas County, TX (Ronnie Gene Dover b. Jan 20, 1945, and Gary Don Dover, b. I believe I have found Mary Dover in 1900. She is indexed as Mary A. Doors, is living at Wood Station in Catoosa County, GA. She is 51 years old, widowed, head of house, born August 1848. She has living with her: James "W?" (should be "J") Dover, born August 1873 (additional info to follow on him), age 26, farm laborer, Belton Dover, born Feb ?, farm laborer, and Francis C. Dover, b. February 1887 (I think). Marjorie Dover Stansel
