He was born April 17, 1951, in Van Buren, the son of Fortunat "Pete" and Carmen (Marquis) Doucette. Jim graduated from Van Buren High School in 1969 and graduated with an engineering degree from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1971. He was a former member of the Lions Club and an active member of Knights of Columbus Council 1635 and Fourth Degree Assembly. Jim was a loving husband and best friend to Phyllis, his wife of 35 years. He was a dedicated provider and caring father to his two sons of whom he was very proud. Jim was also very grateful for being a "Pepere" to his two precious grandsons. For 39 years, Jim worked for Maine Department of Transportation on road projects as a technical engineer and as a bridge manager for the past 10 years. Always taking pride in his work, Jim gave 100 percent and was always fair to everyone. He was planning to retire in the s! ummer of 2010. Jim was a great friend, always honest and trustworthy. He valued spending time with his two brothers, fishing, hunting and talking around the fire at Long Lake. Jim was an avid curler and enjoyed snowshoeing, hiking, playing cards, backgammon and especially kayaking. He enjoyed vacationing in Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, but his small piece of "heaven on earth" was the time he spent at his camp on Van Buren Cove. He is survived by his mother, Carmen (Marquis) Doucette of Van Buren; his beloved wife, Phyllis (Bell) Doucette of Van Buren; two sons, Philip Doucette and his wife, Stephanie, of Auburn, and Thomas Doucette of South Portland; two brothers, Bob and Bill Doucette of Van Buren; and two grandsons, Owen and Lucas Doucette of Auburn. Jim was predeceased by his father, Fortunat "Peter" Doucette, in 2008; and an infant brother in 1949. Relatives and friends may call 1-4 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. until time of service Monday at Ouellette-Thibault Funera! l Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 3 p .m. Monday at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Interment will be later this spring at Grande Riviere Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in his memory to American Cancer Society , New England Division, Inc., 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086 or American Heart Association , 1 Union St., No. 301, Robbinsville, NJ 08691-4183.
