My DNA results so far - trying to find out where my John ARNOLD came from in UK he died in the year 1700 and was born probably in the mid 1600s - and his brother James ARNOLD - no birth can be found for either John ARNOLD was buried in Milton Abbas with his wife Jane in May 1700 - they lived in Winterborne Kingston - I can find anything before this date for them. So I have turned to the USA ARNOLD to find out if any of them came from DORSET in England - I am thinking if I can find out where they come from in UK this may give me a clue to my John and his brother James ARNOLD I have had my brother's YDNA test done with Family History DNA - FHDNA and Ancestry DNA with my own DNA Either someone had latched on to the wrong tree in USA or these ARNOLD men all come from the same line as me So far I am 1/4 way through the lists but this is what we have matched with on both tests William ARNOLD = Christian PEAK 18 Matches Thomas ARNOLD= Grace DOYLE 15 Matches William ARNOLD = Elizabeth BOSTICK 9 Matches Thomas ARNOLD - Phebe PARKHURST 7 Matches Joseph ARNOLD = Elisabeth WAKEMAN 5 Matches I don't know about you but this is telling me either everyone is doing the wrong trees in the USA - or copying each other- or my brother and I connect to all of them through Dorset UK? Hi Jill -- Have you looked for Dorset origins of USA ARNOLD in published genealogies that have been digitised and made available from various online archives? Legacy recently had an article on such sources: http://news.legacyfamilytree.com/legacy_news/2017/08/find-your-family-online-in-digital-books.html Searching the FamilySearch Catalog for Surname = ARNOLD and FHC = Online finds over 500 hits which can be reduced by eliminating unlikely categories, but adding Keyword = Dorset reduces that to the disappointingly small number of only one: A historical genealogy of the family of Thomas Arnold of Watertown, Massachusetts https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/1018804?availability=Family%20History%20Library from where the full PDF may be downloaded. "Thomas ARNOLD was born 18 April, 1599 in Cheselbourne, Dorset, England. He emigrated in 1635 and settled in Watertown, Massachusetts. He married Phoebe PARKHURST ..." It also mentions William ARNOLD who married Christian PEAK and debates whether Thomas and William were related. And it mentions property in Milton Abbas, which all seems relevant to your research. I noticed that the Dorset ARNOLD allegedly had Welsh origins via their holding of Llanthony Priory in Monmouthshire, as described in several Google results for [Llanthony Arnold]. I was there last month - beautiful ruins in a remote location, nice pub and tea room.
