Thank you for your information Beverley, my posting was to the Rootsweb DORSET site so every subscriber to the list gets a copy of each post so that is how you received my question. I had the exact details to you for 6 of the Tory children, those being, Edward, Elizabeth, Henry Warland, Charles, Maria, James and Thomas. There is a headstone for Thomas Tory in the graveyard of Christchurch Priory which is very near to where I grew up. I am now resident in Sydney Australia having been born in Bournemouth in the UK but have lived "downunder" since 1974. I stumbled across a photo of the headstone for Thomas on a site of gravestones but was unable to decipher some of the inscription. Once again thanks for replying. Kind Regards Keith Warland Radford. -----Original Message----- From: Beverly Roth [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, 1 September 2019 1:36 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [DOR] Re: Death Date I do not know why you contacted me because I don't have this person in my tree. I know that I have family in the area and have transcribed some of the information for the area. I did a quick look and think I am looking at what you are speaking about, but you did not give ID numbers. Edward Tory KHTZ-VXY. He is the son of John and should be merged with Edward Tory M6BW-LFH. In a search - he seems to have died April 1838 living on Kennington St in Newington, London, but to be sure you would have to see if there is a will and/or check the census records for England for families of his other children. A Mary (Warland) Tory age 77 (so born about 1764) was buried 28 July 1841 in St Mary, Newinton, Southward which is really part of or next to London. In the 1841 census - St Peters, Newington, Surrey (again next to London) on Berisford St lists a Mary Torey age 75 and an Amelia Torey age 30 are listed together and neither are born in the county. Amelia may be the one baptize 4 Oct 1812 in Horne, Surrey daughter of James & Sarah Terry which would be in the county and the wrong wife of the James son of Edward?? BUT I believe that the age 30 on the census is wrong and it should be age 40 because of the following who I believe is their family born in Christchurch, Hampshire, England: (The mother is listed as Mary on the 1813 baptism only - father as Edward on the others). The reason I believe this is their family is because Henry born in 1789 is given the middle name of Warlan (Warland) Edward bapt 4 April 1787 Elizabeth bapt 15 March 1788 Henry Warlen bapt 23 July 1789 Charles 16 Feb 1791 James born 1 July 1793 and bapt 11 June 1793 Maria born 8 March 1792 and bapt 11 June 1795 Susanna born 1 Feb 1795 and bapt 11 June 1795 Robert born 27 April 1797 and bapt 19 Nov 1801 John born 27 March 1799 and bapt 19 Nov 1801 Amelia born 29 Sep 1801 and bapt 19 Nov 1801 Thomas born 11 March 1804 and bapt 14 July 1813 (mom Mary) Jane Mackarell born 9 Oct 1806 and bapt 14 July 1813 (mom Mary) You can probably follow the children in the census records and find their marriages, etc....? As for Mary Dean - possibilies for baptism are 12 May 1729 in Lytchett Matravers daughter of John & Mary 21 April 1745 in Canford Magna illeg daughter of Mary Dean of Oakly, Dorset 10 May 1745 in Corfe Mullen as daughter of Simon & Ann 23 June 1743 in Lyme Regis daughter of William 12 Aug 1735 in Cann (St Rumbold) daughter of William 25 April 1746 in Beaminster daughter of Mary Dean There was a burial 20 April 1779 in Wimborne Minster of Mary Warland, widow but I did not find a burial of a Robert between the time the last child would be conceived and the burial of Mary - so may not be the right one Good luck Beverly Roth ________________________________ From: Jon Baker <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, August 31, 2019 5:28 AM To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: [DOR] Re: Death Date Keith The evidence from other family trees on Ancestry (I know, not particularly reliable) shows Edward and Mary dying in Newington, London in 1838 and 1841 respectively, sourced from Burial records from the London Metropolitan Archives. The children were born in Christchurch, Hampshire, there were more than you suggest. Quite how the owners of these family trees have proved the link from Dorset to Hampshire to Newington, London I can't say, but it is certainly a possibility given the relatively unusual surname. Jon Baker Dorset OPC -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] I have been researching with other family members my Warland ancestors for some 30+ years. Sadly I have hit a brick wall with one of the female members of the family. Mary Warland born 1766 to Robert Warland and Mary Dean married Edward Tory in 1784 in Sturminster Marshall, my problem is I cannot find a death date for her. I have that she gave birth to 6 children from 1787 to 1793 and one other possibly later but have no date. From these dates I assume she was still alive going into the 1800's. Any help would be most appreciated. I also do not have a death date for Edward Tory who was born circa1753. Anyone with a large sledgehammer to knock down this wall??? _______________________________________________ *************************************** When replying to this message, please spare a thought for your fellow list members, and anyone searching the archives in the future.
