    1. [DOR] ADMIN: We're back in business!

    3. Hello List, Most of you will be aware that last year Rootsweb's lists went through a period of being "broken", and often not working at all. Unfortunately this coincided with my entering a prolonged period of severe (and eventually life-threatening) health problems, and I was not able to keep abreast of what has proven to be some drastic changes to the mail system which Rootsweb is using. Fortunately the health issues are behind me now, but I have discovered that I have also suffered from a combination of problems with my email (which I have changed, along with my ISP) and Windows OS such that I have been forced to switch to Linux. The nett result of all of this is that I have discovered that I have a backlog of held messages (I'm not even sure why they got trapped) and I am on a steep and necessarily rapid learning curve when it comes to finding my way around the list admin tools. This explains why there have been old posts arriving on the list, and I can only ask for your patience while I try to catch up with pages and pages of posts requiring my attention. Those of you who have been subscribed to the list for a long enough time will remember that I always used to keep my finger on the pulse of the list traffic, and everything used to jog along quite smoothly. You can be assured that we will be returning to that happy state of affairs as quickly as I can manage it. I have been fortunate enough to have had an offer of help from another list admin who knows what he's doing, and he has been given full admin rights for the time that his assistance is needed. There will be further posts from me in the near future, but for the moment please take note of this very important fact: you must NEVER reply to posts which have "ADMIN:" in the subject line. The list is only for genealogical content with a Dorset relevance. I will welcome any and all questions and comments arising from posts such as this OFF-LIST at [email protected] Thank you for your patience, and please accept my apologies for the situation which has arisen. Regards, Davy Cannon Dorchester, Dorset List Admin, Dorset List

    3. Bravo.  I have been off the lists for some time, just recently stumbled on this one.  My maternal grandparents were both born in England and my mother was born there, too. Her parents were Domestic servants   and my grandfather continued  as a Butler in Maine.  The contrast to my paternal family seemed an interesting story when I found a blank spot in my baby book.  Who am I?  I am back to doing look- ups and need to consult old papers, but Wiltshire is my beginning close by Stonehenge where I grandmother knew as a child.  Good to know you are up and around.
