Her name, according to her marriage certificate, is Amey Russell. She marries Alfred Cheney in Godmanstone on 18th July 1861. Her father's name is given as John Russell and he is a Shepherd. Her age is just "full age" but on the census records she DOES appear on (after her marriage) its given as 1840. She says her birthplace is Godmanstone. The marriage certificate also gives a "Mary Russell" as a witness. I am thinking this is probably a sister as the other witness is a brother of the groom. Amey appears on the census record in 1871 living in Maiden Newton as Amy Chaney. Class: [RG10; Piece: 2014; Folio: 41; Page: 21; GSU roll: 831755] Sadly her husband Alfred dies and in 1873 she marries George Thorne. She can then be found in 1881, 1891 and 1901 as Amy Thorne. 1881: Class: RG11; Piece: 2113; Folio: 47; Page: 4; GSU roll: 1341510. 1891: Class: RG12; Piece: 1655; Folio 38; Page 4; GSU roll: 6096765. 1901: Class: RG13; Piece: 2004; Folio: 34; Page: 4. She dies in 1912 age about 72. But I cannot find any record of her prior to her marriage to Alfred. I have looked at Godmanstone census records but there is no Russell family living there. Its strange because on the wedding certificate both bride and groom give their current residence as Godmanstone. Yet they don't appear on the 1861 census taken just a few months before. I have traced Alfred Cheney and his family by the way. Its just Amy I can't get anywhere with. Any help would be gratefully received.
