Hi John, Thank you for your input re number 1 Hope Square. The information about the numbers in Hope Street is very useful. . Interestingly the 1841 census shows my great great grandfather, Charles Gill, and his family living in Cove Street but no number is given. The 1911 census definitely shows Edward Gill and family at 1 Hope Square so maybe the buildings on either side of the "triangle" were added at a later date and at that time the space for no 1 was bigger. Edward was a brewery worker at the time of the census so didn't have far to go to work ! Thanks again for your reply and photo links. Sue.
