Hi Christel I don't have this verified at source, but I believe Ann Pelly and Benjamin Downton were married 20 April 1809 in Nether Compton. Unfortunately Nether Compton marriages are not online as far as I know, so would need to be verified in the PRs at Dorchester. I also concur that Ann's parents were John Pelly and Abigail Hillier but like you I have not been able to find their marriage. Benjamin Downton was the youngest son of my 6*Great Grandparents William Downton and Sarah Warren of Glanvilles Wootton. You can find the details I do have on my web site at www.vectisjon.com/familyhistory/ It would be good to have the Nether Compton marriage confirmed. Can someone please pinpoint this marriage for me? Also, I believe her to be the daughter of John & Abigail (one of her daughters is named Abigail) but there doesn't seem to be a baptism; she was born c1786. If I am right about the above, she has a niece also called Ann born 1808 Nether Compton, to Samuel and Lydia; some Ancestry trees have this Ann marrying a Matthew GARRETT. In the 1851 census he does indeed have a wife called Ann born 1808 Nether Compton, but I cannot be sure it is this Ann as again I cannot trace the marriage, which I think would have taken place in Nether Compton about 1830. To make matters confusing there is another Ann Pelly born 1812 Nether Compton, presumably another niece of my original Ann. Her parents are George and Mary; again I haven't found George's baptism or marriage, but I think George was probably another son of John and Abigail; the first of his children (so far as I currently know) was born in Nether Compton in 1808. Haven't tracked down John and Abigail's marriage either. If anyone can answer these (constantly multiplying) questions, or even one of them, I will be very grateful.
