I am looking for the parents of William CROSS born Shaftesbury, Dorset in about 1861. He dos not appear on any Census prior to 1911. Also looking for birth of his Wife, Sarah Ann ?????, born in Wroxham, Norfolk about 1861. They were married in about 1882. David Lindsell, Andover

Hi David There is this William CROSS on the 1901 Census William CROSS, 44, Carpenter, Born Shaftesbury, Dorset Sarah CROSS, 44, Wife, Born Worschman, Norfolk Sidney CROSS, 17, Son, Waiter, Born Shaftesbury, Dorset Florence CROSS, 15, Daughter, Born Shaftesbury, Dorset Violet CROSS, 12, Daughter, Born Southampton William CROSS, 7, Son, Born Southampton They are living at 7 Windsor Terrace, All Saints, Southampton If this is your William, he was born c1857. Hi David William Cross appears in the 1861-1891 censuses as listed below. Baptism, birth and parents marriage references also below. The interesting point is that in 1881 William's wife was Emeline, while in 1891 it was Sarah Ann. Both were from Norfolk, both the same age, suggests to me that Sarah Ann and Emeline may have been the same person. Unfortunately cannot find a marriage that fits (I was tempted by a marriage in Taunton between William Cross and Emmeline Cox in 1881, but it was Sep Qtr, i.e. just after the 1881 census).
