This more or less confirms my information. Can you tell me why you have included Stephen George Holt as I am not aware of this connection. I know Sarah(1) Ann Pitfield 1851 died in 1852 but the second Sarah(2)Ann Pitfield of 1852 did marry William Young for which I have a marriage certificate. Sarah(2) had 6 children with William but for some reason on the birth certificates she gives her name as Sarah Young formerly Pitfield for the first two children and then as Sarah Young formerly Hawkins for the others. I can only believe that this is probably due to Sarah's family all who died around 1852 and that she went to live with her Uncle & Aunt who lived in the same street and they were named Hawkins. Found reference to this in the 1861 census where sarah is shown as a lodger. My mother who is still alive (101yrs) tells me that she remembers her grandmother Sarah using the name Jane on some documents, why she does not know. Her death certificate in 1914 names her as Sarah as does the inquest report on her death. Unfortunately I think the mystery over surnames may never be solved. Thanks again for your input.
