I assumed that as they had their children baptised as a married couple in the same village where they had had an illegitimate child baptised that they must have done (perhaps the vicar was new?) Hi Christel Sorry to blow your nice theory out of the water but Henry Venables was Vicar of Buckland Newton for 45 years until his death in 1850, so would have known Jethro man and boy, indeed he would have baptized and buried him it would seem, but for some reason, didn't officiate over a marriage. Sorry I cannot help any further, despite Jethro and Jane being residents of my parishes, but unable to shed any light on their alleged marriage. One avenue that I was going to suggest was to see if Banns exist, but after a quick check Dorset History Centre does not have Banns for Buckland Newton prior to 1849.
