Does anyone know whether there are Bishops Transcripts in existence for Lyme Regis and, if so, what period they cover? I understand some of the original registers are in bad condition Ros
Ros I believe the original BTs are held in Chippenham at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre. The dates covered are from 1579-1880. If this is correct then this would be a bonus as most BTs for Dorset only date from 1721. I suggest you contact the WSHC to confirm. Contact details are available at: http://www.wshc.eu/ The BTs have been microfilmed by the LDS and so would also be viewable at your local FHC. Dear Ros, The BTs for Dorset are held at the Wilts Record Office (known as The Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre) in Chippenham (because the churches come under the Salisbury Diocese and Salisbury is in Wilts). I suggest you contact them to see if there are any for Lyme and if so what they cover.
