hello I am trying to trace the brothers and sisters of my 3 x Great Grandfather Matthew Symes born 1788 at burstock his parents were stated as Robert Symes and Betty. I am having problems finding out when Robert Symes and Betty married. Also finding Betty surname is a problem although she was born around 1759. Robert Symes was born around 1755 i think at Burstock. Is there any way of finding this out. Also any more children they may have had. You have been very helpful to me before i thought i would mention that.

Dear Ellen: Ancestry has: Robert SYMES - baptism 12 October 1756 @ Burstock - Father: Robert SYMES Other SYMES baptisms @ Burstock (with Father noted as Robert): John SYMES on 6 January 1764 - Father: Robert SYMES Bettey (sic) SYMES on 3 November 1765 - : Robert & Bettey SYMES John SYMES on 18 September 1791 - Father: Robert SYMES James SYMES on 25 March 1796 - Parents: Robert & Jane SYMES Family Search (IGI extracted from Burstock Parish Records) has: Mary SIMS (sic) on 4 February 1781 - Father: Robert SIMS (sic) Hannah SIMES (sic) on 25 December 1784 - Father: Robart (sic) SIMES (sic) Dorset OPC (& FreeReg) have: Marriages at Burstock: Robert SIMS (sic) & Betty CUMMINS on 4 April 1763. (This would match with the baptisms in 1764 & 1765 and possibly your Matthew's in 1788 and possibly John in 1791 - but this John could also be Robert & Jane's son) However unless Robert baptised 1756 was not baptised as an infant, then this cannot be his marriage. Have you considered that he may have been baptised at about 12 years old (before confirmation)? You really need to check the original parish records at Dorset History Centre, but I hope this helps.
