The possibility that he was born in Yorks seems to come from his record in the IGI, this was posted by Margaret Henderson, 315, 354 Woodvale Road, East Edmonton, Alberta, T6L 5E9, you may have to resort to snail mail and contact her to see where she got her record from! I've looked through all my Dorset, London and Yorks records but can't find anything all all for him. Your only other option I can find is a website http://vimagination.zapto.org/FH/list.php which is the family tree of Jaki Woolnough, he is mentioned there, although she has no record of his birthplace or parents either from what I can see, but it might be worth contacting her and pooling your resources.
