Hello Dawn - this may be a red herring but in 1901 there is a George RIGGS living in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire with birthplace given as 'Langham, Hampshire'. I note from the 1861/1871 censuses that George's birthplace is given as Longham, Dorset - this appears to be very close to the Hampshire border (about 1 mile according to Genuki) so might be worth considering? The age is a little out and this George has a 23yr old wife Agnes (which could explain the 5 yr deduction from his age!!). From FreeBMD this marriage probably took place in 1900 registered Christchurch. The marriage certificate would show whether this was your man or not I guess. Just something which may be worth considering. Let me know if you are unable to access the census and I can forward the details.
