Dear Sandra, Mythe Hill is just to the South East of Mapperton Farm off the road from Mapperton to Melpash (between Mapperton & Loscombe on Google Maps) near Jacks Hill Quarry. Mythe cottages were in Burcombe Wood Plantation where there was a small ford. Check out www.old-maps.co.uk Search for Mapperton and select the second entry. Click on the map until the red marker is on the ford, then click on the top map on the right. It will load showing the area and you can then click on this map to enlarge the area to make it clear to see where the cottages were. On Google Maps the track down from Mapperton to Mythe can be seen but there doesn't appear to be any sign of any buildings there today, however there is alot of tree cover. (Follow the road along to the east from Mapperton and just shortly before the farm at the end there is a long track off it going due south - follow this down into the wooded copse above Loscombe Farm ) Regards Vanessa Dorset ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra J Smith" <sandra.s@ntlworld.com> To: <dorset@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 15, 2010 3:40 PM Subject: [DOR] Mythe, Mapperton by Beaminster Hi list, Is there anyone on the list who knows Mapperton (by Beaminster) who could explain where MYTHE is or was. >From the early census returns this address is given to a small group of >abodes which I would guess were labourers' cottages in the parish of >Mapperton.
