Dear Robin, Most of Bournemouth (which was formally known as Holdenhurst) came under Hampshire until the Local Authority Act in 1974, when it became part of Dorset. However, if you are searching for BMD certicates, Bournemouth District didn't exist for registration purposes until 1932 (before then it was part of Christchurch District). Furthermore, parts of what is now Bournemouth, were part of the Cogdean Hundred (Canford & Kinson Tythings) which came under Dorset. The registration district for these was Poole District. So to answer your question, it is covered by both Dorset & Hampshire lists. What in particular are you wanting to find out? Thanks Vanessa That clarifies what we have about the BRYON family who came to the area when George BRYON retired from the army in 1897. He gave his intended residence as ³C/o Mrs Pitman, Holdenhurst, Nr Christchurch (amended to) Piddlehurst Dorset². She was his mother in law. There was a child born in Stratton Dorset in May 1898. He re-enlisted in 1900 and retired to become a postman in 1905. This time his intended address is ³ C/o Mr F (?) Pitman, Holdenhurst, Nr Christchurch, Hants.² This is amended to ³Blackwater, Christchurch, Hants² My question is where do I look for more information about the places in the area? And are there any online indexes/transcriptions of the Stratton baptisms? Robin
