Would SKS know where Shute Lane is or was in Longfleet. Many thanks in advance. Doug Phillips Never doubt the possibilities to be, and obstacles will never become a reality.
3rd time lucky? I have tried to send this message twice already, but I keep receiving a failure notice, but I can't work out why! Dear Doug, I believe Shute Lane or just Shute was another name for what is now Constitution Hill Road. If you know the area, you will understand why! I must admit that I'm not sure that I would have wanted to attempt it with a horse & cart. It was part of the original turnpike road from Poole to Ringwood, via Longfleet and Longham. I think this is Sterte Lane. I looked up the original page in the 1851 census to see if the writing could be misread. There were only two families there then. One was Mark Read and family and the other was Rev Peter Jolliffe who lived in Sterte House. Even today, there are many local people who don't know where Sterte is. It's sandwiched between the Weymouth railway line and the harbour. It is/was in Longfleet parish. Liz Pass Subject: [DOR] Shute Lane, Longfleet Would SKS know where Shute Lane is or was in Longfleet.
