    3. For your information, the Dorset Parish Registers on film, not just the Bishops Transcripts, are now available through LDS libraries. Since they have only been available for a few weeks, they would most likely need to be ordered through the branch libraries. Of course, they are all available for viewing at the main library in Salt Lake City.

    3. Hi Garry, I hope you are keeping well up there in Yorkshire. Here are the Charlotte FUDGE baptisms liseted at Stur from the Dorset FHS via FMP (There doesn't appear to be one for a Charlotte to Jesse & Mary in 1896 though all the rest of their children are listed.) Baptisms: 9 March 1788 Charlotte d/o Cornelius & Miriam 23 June 1789 Charlotte d/o Cornelius & Miriam 6 February 1791 Charlotte d/o Jesse & Mary - your girl 15 August 1793 Charlotte d/o Stephen & Mary 1 March 1797 Charlotte baseborn d/o Betty Marriages: Charlotte FUDGE otp to James ROSE otp by Banns on 19 August 1911 @ Sturminster Newton Witnesses: Robert Fudge & John Inkpen (Clerk) Charlotte FUDGE otp to Peter TROWBRIDGE of Belchalwell by Banns on 30 December 1824 @ Sturminster Newton Witnesses: James Rose & Susanna Ridout & John Inkpen Charlotte FUDGE otp to John HAYTER of Fifehead Magdalen by Banns on 26 December 1824 @ Sturminster Newton Witnesses: William Colbourne & John Inkpen The 1851 Census has: James ROSE 62 Ag Lab b Sturminster (b abt 1788/89) Charlotte ROSE 60 b Sturminster (b abt 1790/91) Elizabeth ROSE 19 Glover b Sturminster (b abt 1831/32) Residing Church Street, Sturminster Charlotte & James are also on the 1861 census (with the same birthdates) Charlotte Rose's death is registered in Mar 1/4 1869 Sturminster (aged 78) giving a birth year of 1790/91. Could this be your Charlotte baptised in February 1791 - as it also appears that her brother Robert was a witness at the wedding? It doesn't appear that either the Charlotte baptised 1789 (d/o Cornelius & Miriam) or the Charlotte baptised 1793 (d/o Stephen & Mary) had a brother named Robert. Maybe it was one of them who married Peter Trowbridge? It is for discussing all the "child migrants" which were shipped out or flown out of the United Kingdom and Ireland. This "child migrant scheme" went on from 1860 to 1970 - about 100 years. From 1860 to 1940 "over 100,000" of the unwanted or needy children were sent to Canada. From ~1900 to 1970 they were also sent to Australia, New Zealand, Africa, South Africa, Malta, etc. http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/UK/CHILD-MIGRANTS-UK.html In Canada, this is "2010, the Year of the British Home Child." And, my LEWIS / CORKILL great-grandparents were some of those "home children." They were born in Liverpool, Lancashire, ~1860 and were shipped to Nova Scotia in 1874. I have been on the BHC List for 7 years. If anyone would like further information, I can post it on another day. Or, you can check the archives of the BHC List for important information. Or, you can search on-line for "former child migrants." 3. Dear Ellen: Ancestry has: Robert SYMES - baptism 12 October 1756 @ Burstock - Father: Robert SYMES Other SYMES baptisms @ Burstock (with Father noted as Robert): John SYMES on 6 January 1764 - Father: Robert SYMES Bettey (sic) SYMES on 3 November 1765 - : Robert & Bettey SYMES John SYMES on 18 September 1791 - Father: Robert SYMES James SYMES on 25 March 1796 - Parents: Robert & Jane SYMES Family Search (IGI extracted from Burstock Parish Records) has: Mary SIMS (sic) on 4 February 1781 - Father: Robert SIMS (sic) Hannah SIMES (sic) on 25 December 1784 - Father: Robart (sic) SIMES (sic) Dorset OPC (& FreeReg) have: Marriages at Burstock: Robert SIMS (sic) & Betty CUMMINS on 4 April 1763. (This would match with the baptisms in 1764 & 1765 and possibly your Matthew's in 1788 and possibly John in 1791 - but this John could also be Robert & Jane's son) However unless Robert baptised 1756 was not baptised as an infant, then this cannot be his marriage. Have you considered that he may have been baptised at about 12 years old (before confirmation)? You really need to check the original parish records at Dorset History Centre, but I hope this helps. I am having problems finding out when Robert Symes and Betty married. Also finding Betty surname is a problem although she was born around 1759. Robert Symes was born around 1755 i think at Burstock. Is there any way of finding this out. Also any more children they may have had. You have been very helpful to me before i thought i would mention that.
