Specifically, pages 4, 9, 13, 16, 19, 23, 27 and 30 don't appear to be there. I thought they might relate to properties that fell within District 4, but I didn't see them there either. Am I overlooking something? I'm not massively familiar with that particular census, so there may be some reasonable explanation, but from the sequential property count I'd make that about 40 properties within that district for which there is no image. It's R.G. 10/1997, incidentally. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Dear Richard, Have you contacted the Weymouth & Portland Council? As it appears that they died in the workhouse, then they were probably buried in one of the public cemeteries (probably Wyke), rather than a churchyard. They probably wouldn't have a grave marker or headstone (as they were poor and there would not have been anyone to pay for it). Here are the details from the Weymouth & Portland Crematorium Office (where all records are kept) from their page of the website www.weymouth.gov.uk Contact us at Bereavement Services Weymouth Crematorium Quibo Lane Weymouth Dorset DT4 0RR Tel: 01305 786984 Fax: 01305 767804 Location The office of the Bereavement Services Division of the Weymouth and Portland Borough Council is located at the Weymouth Crematorium, Quibo Lane Weymouth. >From here the Council's four Cemeteries and the Crematorium are administered and any public enquires answered. A team of 7 administrative and operational staff, are available to assist the bereaved and Funeral Directors. We endeavour to offer the highest calibre service and our reputation for excellent compassionate service to the public enables us to go out of our way meeting the wishes of the bereaved. Cemeteries Bereavement Services provides burial facilities at four cemeteries: a.. Weymouth Cemetery, Abbotsbury Road, Weymouth. b.. Melcombe Regis Cemetery, Newstead Road, Weymouth. c.. Wyke Regis Cemetery, Wyke Regis, Weymouth. d.. Portland Cemetery, Weston Road, Portland. The oldest cemetery is the Melcombe Regis cemetery, which was opened in 1856. All the original registers for the above cemeteries are held at the Weymouth Crematorium office and can be inspected by appointment. If you explain that you are in USA, they may do a look up and confirm which cemetery (if any) and the plot numbers - they may even send you a map of the cemetery with the plots marked - you could then 'Google Earth' and view it from the air. 3. Dear Ellen, How do you know that John & Betty married at Broadwinsor in 1761? I know that their children were baptised there: Samuel (1762), John (1763), Mary (1766), Ann (1767), Ann (1772), Henry (1777) and Betty (1781) but their marriage doesn't appear to be listed at Broadwinsor. There is the following marriage at Stoke Abbott: John AKERMAN (of Bridport) to Elizabeth COLINGDON (otp) by licence on 18 December 1755 @ Stoke Abbott Witnesses: Arthur HANN & Susanna COLINGDON (Elizabeth signs Betty) (Stoke Abbott is less than 2 miles from Broadwinsor) What proof have you that John was baptised in Child Okeford and is the son of Lawrence & Mary? (especially as they don't appear to have named any of their children either Lawrence or Mary which was customary in Dorset) I think John was more likely to be the John AKERMAN s/o Samuel & Mary baptised on 2 March 1736 @ Broadwinsor Regards Vanessa Dorset ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ellen Amabel Delaney" <elliedd@btinternet.com> To: <dorset@rootsweb.com>; <dorsetlookups@fsmail.net> Sent: Thursday, September 30, 2010 10:26 PM Subject: [DOR] marriage of John Akerman to Betty on 1761 Broadwindsor > hello > > I wonder if any one can help i am trying to find out more details about > the marriage of John Akerman to Betty in 1761 at Broadwindsor. 1. Re: [DOR] Eliza WAY of Athelhampton
    2. Vanessa Marshall
    3. Hello Derek, I'm not going to the DHC, but have checked my records for you. I can't find a burial for an Eliza WAY other than the one already given you by Duncan. The record for the burial at Milbourne St. Andrew in 1837 states that Eliza's abode at the time of death was Milbourne Styleham. There is also a marriage listed: Eliza WAY to George BENDLE on 8 December 1842 @ Tolpuddle. Eliza gives her father as William WAY George gives his father as Charles BENDLE If the Milbourne burial turns out not to be your Eliza, maybe this is her? Duncan is correct that Eliza & Elizabeth were considered completely separate names and many families had girls with both these names living at the same time (I have one such family in my lines also). 3. Hi Duncan, You may be right, but: Eliza WAY baptised 17 Jul 1818 Milborne St Andrew d/o Charles WAY & Susanna SYMONDS buried 21 Jan 1839 Milborne St. Andrew. Based on the dubious ages Elizabeth WAY born 1822 married George BENDLE That leaves Eliza ........ You may be right but I cannot find Eliza alive if I tie Elizabeth to George BENDLE This is a classic 'either / or' Best wishes, Derek > From: d.smith.1@blueyonder.co.uk > To: dorset@rootsweb.com > Date: Wed, 29 Sep 2010 20:24:10 +0100 > Subject: [DOR] Eliza WAY of Athelhampton > > Derek you asked ... It may therefore be the case that Eliza WAY did not die prior to Elizabeth's birth. That being the case you may care to consider a burial of an Eliza WAY at Milborne St Andrew which took place on 22 June 1837 when the person involved was aged 19. > > Duncan, Dundee > > > *************************************** > > When replying to this message, please spare a thought for your fellow list members, and anyone searching the archives in the future.
