Hi ,i am still researching my Aunt's postcards and have advanced to 1947-48.During these two years my Aunt and Grandma(Hilda Boyt and Elsie Hand) lived together in Godmanstone, I have memories of this house, just.However the postal address is always simply 'Godmanstone,Dorset.I realise that back then the postman knew where everyone lived ,but where would i look now to identify which house and street it was.I have looked at every house on Google Street and none seems to be the one i remember.It is important to me to find it as i am trying to make a pictorial and documentary record of the cards ,with locations pictured ,as well as the senders and receivers biographical and photographical details where possible .Thank you ............ (Info BIVRI) Elizabeth W KELVEY (sic) married Thomas JACKSON (a widower of Lyme Regis) by banns on 17 August 1834 at Melcombe Regis Witnesses: John MARTIN & Edward FOOKS (Info DorsetFHS via FMP) - This seems to be the daughter of the marriage below as Elizabeth McKELVY (sic) Snr is on the 1851 census with Thomas & Elizabeth and their family in Lyme Regis (Elizabeth's sister - Mary McKELVY is also residing there) or John MACELVEY (sic) & Elizabeth JACKSON married on 31 October 1797 at Lyme Regis, Dorset Witnesses: James & Mary TRAYTE Info - Dorset fhs via FMP John McKELVEY (aged 70) was buried at Melcombe Regis on 15 August 1836. Info - Dorset FHS via FMP (maybe this was Samuel's father?) Furthermore: There are 3 children baptised to a James & Harriet McKELVEY at Wyke Regis: Mary Ann McKELVEY on 8 October 1820 James Daniel McKELVIE (sic) on 17 February 1822 William James McKELVIE (sic) also on 17 February 1822 James Snr is noted as a Mariner / Sailor. Info - DorsetFHS via FMP William J McKELVEY was buried at Wyke Regis (sged 6 months) on 25 August 1822 and James McALVEY (sic) (an infant) was buried at Melcombe Regis on 30 May 1824. Info - DorsetFHS via FMP (maybe Samuel was related to James snr?) Being that there seems to be a connection between the McKELVEYs of Melcombe Regis & the JACKSONs of Lyme Regis - it might be worth checking the Lyme Regis area for any connection to Samuel.     3. Shirley, I suggest you start with KELLY's street directory for Dorset .... It came out every year until about 1975 ... it lists all inhabitants by name and address and also by street name and each person by house number in each street/road ... there will be copies for 1940-50 in the library in Dorchester and also in the Dorset History centre ..... hope this helps ... Author: diamondlifestyle Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.dor.general/6237.8.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, the only McKelveys I can find seem to be located in Melcombe Regis, that's where Samuel & Ann married (St Mary's, 21 Mar 1830 - by banns) and where Ann was buried (St Mary's, 31 Jan 1876, aged 66) I can't find Samuel's baptism, however I have found an Elizabeth McKelvey baptised at St Mary's 27 Dec 1811, dau of George and Ann; the age seems right for her to be a sister or cousin, it might be worth trying to trace that line. I'm looking for Samuel McKelvey, born approximately 1805. I've checked every website I can find, but I've been stuck here for several years, now. I know he lived in Weymouth, Melcombe Regis, Wyke Regis. I've got all his children, and his wife, Ann Syms. All census records indicate he was born in Dorset, except one that says he was born in Bristol (? I'm following up on that one, too). But I can't find where or exactly when he was born. The originals are on microfiche at Dorset History Centre and begin at 1600 for baptisms, marriages & burials) Dorset Family History Society has records on microfiche from 1722 (baptisms & burials) and from 1600 (marriages) You can search baptisms from 1787, marriages from 1600 & burials from 1813 on Find my Past.
