    3. Hi everyone, A big thank you to everyone who replied to my 'Elizabeth BENDLE' email. Lynn in Australia gave me what I think is elizabeth's family on the 1841 census. Although there are BENDLE's in Canada I have nothing conclusive as to what happened to this family after the birth of Elizabeth 1843 in Tolpuddle. Best Wishes, Derek

    3. Hi Rod, Welcome to the list. Ancestry has: Baptisms at Cheddington (sic): John - baptised 1 October 1780 - parents William & Ruth William baptised 11 June 1786 - William & Ruth James baptised 1791 - no date or parents given George 1794 - no date or parents given Charles baptised 8 September 1801 - no parents given I believe these were taken from the Bishop Transcripts as Dorset History Centre only has the baptisms & burials from 1813. The BTs are kpt at the Wiltshire & Swindon Archives as the Dorset churches came under the Diocese of Salisbury. The baptisms from 1813 - 1837 are online at Find My Past Find my Past also has the Chedington burials 1813 - 1837 and Ruth's burial appears to be listed: Ruth SANDERS (sic) otp aged 65 buried on 13 February 1820 at St James, Cheddington (sic). Have you checked name variations & adjoining parishes? Militia records are held at the Dorset History Centre - you can search their catalogue on-line. See www.dorsetforyou.com/dorsethistorycentre There doesn't appear tob any Militia records for Chedington, but there are some for Corscombe (a neighbouring parish). I hope this helps, Vanessa Dorset ----- Original Message ----- From: "rod" <rodhill309@bigpond.com> To: <DORSET@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 16, 2010 5:21 AM Subject: [DOR] CHEDDINGTON BDM/MALITIA RECORDS:/SAUNDERS > > Hi I am Rod and new to the list > Can anyone tell me if the Baptism 1750-1813 > Burials any at all > and Malitia 1756-1799 records for Cheddinton still exist? > > Looking for a SAUNDERS family > William SAUNDERS wife Ruth(can find no Marriage) > Children > John 1780 > William 1786 > James 1791 > George 1794 > Robert 1797 > Charles 1801 > > A family story relates that the family was very large with 16 children > I have tried online Dorset OPC and the BVRI ed 2. > Any assistance would be most appreciated > Rod > Tasmania

    3. Hi Derek - I notice that the baptism record states that George was from East Tytherley in Hampshire. If you haven't already found him, there is a George BENDLE aged 24 in East Tytherley in 1841 with what is presumably his parents Charles and Lydia and perhaps a sister Sarah. Lydia's death is recorded in Stockbridge, Hampshire in 1846 and there is also a death registration for a George BENDALL, Stockbridge 1847. It is also possible that Elizabeth's birth is registered in Stockbridge 1843. In 1851 Sarah, who married John SIMS in 1849 (reg Stockbridge) is living in East Tytherley with her father Charles, birthplace transcribed as Tytherley. Sarah's baptism is on the IGI, along with a sister Jane. Hope this adds a little, apologies if you have this already. Regards, Patsy - New Zealand . I believed she was Elizabeth Tolley Richards(1796) who married James Crabb at Netherbury on 31 Oct 1816. (Listed as such in other trees) However, the England 1871 Census, lists Elizabeth Crabb (mother/widow)aged 81, born Stoke Ambden. The other names in the census listing confirm I have the correct family. Her death certificate states she died 29 Sept 1879 in Netherbury, age 89, and that she was the widow of James Crabb, farmer. Is a 5-6 year age discrepancy worth investigating further and if so, where do I go from here? Thanks, Mezz Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
