Greetings to all on the list! I am still trying to find more information on my GRAY family and wonder if anyone on the list can tell me if "Broadridge" or "Broadedge" Cottage still exists in Ashmore? My grandmother, Annie Gray was born there in December 1881 and I would love to know if it is still there or even find a photo of it. I think I am dreaming! Regards, Elaine McLean Mission, BC, Canada

I seek to make contact, or to share FOWLER family history notes, with any descendant or researcher of the family of my cousin, Robert FOWLER. Robert FOWLER junior, was a son of Robert FOWLER senior and Mary Ann Phelps SYMES, farmers and land owners in Winterborne Whitchurch, Dorset. He was baptized in Winterborne Whitchurch, Dorset, on May 21, 1865. For the census of 1881, Robert 16 was a scholar in Kings School, Sherborne, Dorset. Family tradition has it that Robert served in the cavalry in the Boer War. Robert does not appear in the English 1891 or 1901 censuses. About 1908, he migrated to Australia, where he married Isabel MORTON, in Sydney, NSW, about 1909. He worked as a watchman in the NSW Railway Department. Robert died in NSW, Australia on Nov 15, 1927, and was buried in Presbyterian Cemetery, Rockwood, Sydney, NSW. Robert and Isabel had issue: (1) Alan Robert FOWLER, born about 1910, in Newtown, Sydney, NSW. Alan married Hilda Jean ANSHAW. Alan died in 1988 and Hilda in 1995; Alan and Hilda had issue. (2) Cecil Morton FOWLER, born on April 16th., 1913, in Marrickville, Sydney, NSW, Australia. On March 25th., 1933, in Hurstville, Sydney, NSW, Cecil married Mary Ann CLEAR. During W. W. II, he served in the Navy as a lieutenant (engineering). He retired from the Electricity Commission as an engineer. Mary Ann died in 1986 in Sydney and Cecil in 2003, also in Sydney; Cecil and Mary Ann had issue. (3) Henry (Harry) FOWLER, born about 1916; Harry died in 1988. Best wishes. Hi Wyn, As you know, George TRAVERS was the son of Daniel TRAVERS & Anne SPRACKLING. She was my 4c 3r so all their descendants are distant cousins of mine. You may recall that we have corresponded before and that we are 5th cousins. Now, because my connection is so distant I haven't spent much time researcing the TRAVERS family. However, I have some data to add. These data include GRO Index births and marriages of living persons. I realise that the information is in the public domain but it may break RootsWeb rules to post it. Births out of wedlock are also involved so I shall write to you off-list. You didn't mention George & Julia's son Arthur Edward so I shall send you what I know about him too. Dear Arlene, I think you may be a generation out and Mary MATTHEW may be your G G Grandmother. (i.e the Mary who had your G Grandfather Robert b 1823), as there is the following marriage: 22 December 1823 - Robert HOOD of Boldre to Mary MATTHEW at Blandford Forum. (Info: Dorset FHS via FMP) and (as Lyn has already quoted), the following baptism: Robert Hood Christening: 31 DEC 1823 Blandford-Forum, , Dorset, England Parents: Father: Robert Hood Mother: Mary It looks like they married just 9 days before their son was born! The 1851 census (which Lyn has already given you), shows that both Roberts were watchmakers. Thanks for the help I have always thought that Robert Hood b1823 had only the one wife Mary Ann Rose, but information I have been sent from Blandford shows a Mary Mathews hand written on two old family trees. The name is the only thing showing, and I sure can't find anything else to say he had been married twice. . As a side note I have noticed that a lot of woman didn't take 9 months like we do to have a baby must have been the long cold night that caused it. Again thanks for the information.
