    1. [DOR] Robert FOWLER (17xx - c1806), Yeoman of Cricket St. Thomas and of Thorncombe
    2. Peter Ferreira
    3. Robert FOWLER senior (17?? – c1806), was a yeoman, of Cricket St. Thomas, Somerset, and of Thorncombe, Devon. It is not known where he lived in the 1750s and 1760s, when his ten children were born - it was not in Cricket St. Thomas. Robert senior was a dairyman. Robert senior and family later lived in Cricket St. Thomas, Somerset, till after 1782; five of his children, all described as of this parish (otp), were married in that parish, between 1778 and 1782. Robert senior and family were living in Thorncombe, Devon, by 1790 and two more of his children were married there, in 1790 and 1792. Robert senior signed his last will on January 30th., 1805, in Thorncombe, Devon. When Robert signed his will, he was a dairyman. That will was proved at London on December 10th., 1806, sons Robert and James FOWLER being executors (prob. 11 / 1453). In his will Robert FOWLER mentioned, by name, his 10 (surviving?) children: 1. Hannah FOWLER, the wife of William TUCKER. 2. Elizabeth FOWLER, who on September 20th., 1780, in Cricket St. Thomas, married Henry DYER, of Creech St. Michael, in the presence Robert FOWLER and Robert DARE. 3. Sarah FOWLER, who on May 7th., 1782, in Cricket St. Thomas, married William GLYDE, of Thorncombe, Devon, in the presence of Thomas PALMER and George GLYDE. 4. Ann FOWLER, who, on February 14th., 1792, in Thorncombe, Devon, married John JEFFERY, in the presence of Joseph JEFFERY and Martha FOWLER. 5. Martha FOWLER, mentioned in her father’s 1805 will - she received all his dairy goods and utensils, together with his household goods and furniture. 6. Robert FOWLER junior, son of Robert FOWLER senior, who was born about 1757. On April 2nd., 1781, in Cricket St. Thomas, he married Mary PHELPS, of Shepton Beauchamp, Somerset, in the presence of John FOWLER and Jane FOWLER. 7. Mary FOWLER, who, on February 28th., 1781, in Cricket St. Thomas, Somerset, married Robert DARE, of Hawkchurch, in the presence of Sarah FOWLER and Francis KENTISBER. 8. Susanna FOWLER, who, on October 19th., 1790, in Thorncombe, Devon, married Hugh BRICE, in the presence of John JEFFREY and Worthington BRICE. 9. John FOWLER, who, on May 19th., 1778, in Cricket St. Thomas, Somerset, married Jane GLYDE, of Winsham, Somerset, in the presence of Mary PHELPS, Mary FOWLER, Thos. MARSH and Robert FOWLER. John died before 1805, when his father’s will mentioned, the seven children of his late son, John. 10. James FOWLER, who by 1805, was apparently not married, when he was mentioned in the will of his father. I am keen to make contact with any relations or researchers of this FOWLER ancestral family of mine. Merry Christmas to all. Peter Ferreira Toronto, Canada.

    3. Hello Colin, I don't have your George Fowler but I do have Fowlers from Uplyme starting with Robert who married a Sarah and had a son Elias in 1791. I have no other children for this couple & wondered if George was a brother to Elias. Do you have George's father & mother? I need to follow this line back & am hoping to get to the Devon Record Office in the New Year. Best wishes Zoe Martin

    1. [DOR] John & Eleanor CLEEVES
    2. Hi Jim I can't help you with this request but I wondered of your CLEEVES were in any way associated with the CLEEVES brothers who came from Canada in the 1800's to Limerick, Eire, where they founded the Cleeves Condensed Milk Co (which had a chequered history - see internet). The factory is now used by the Golden Vale Milk Co of Limerick. I did some research on the family in 1998. I realise that this is not an uncommon surname. 1. Re: [DOR] SNOOK and MULLETT Bringing home for Christmas
    2. Jon Baker
    3. Don One possibility that I can see is Martha Mullet baptized 6 Sep 1734 at Buckland Newton, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth. This would make her at least 32 when she married, possibly might explain the relatively low number of children. Buckland Newton is only about 9 miles north of Pi/uddletown. This is simply a suggestion, but I have no other information about Martha to suggest she married or died in Buckland Newton so it is entirely plausible she married in a nearby parish. I assume you have the dates for the other 3 children's baptisms, if not they are on the Puddletown OPC Page. Also there is an entry for a burial of Martha Snook in 1784, and Richard (Widower) appears to remarry in 1789. Evidence in terms of dates and ages at this time is somewhat thin on the ground, but perhaps this might give you somewhere to start further investigations. I have Mullets in my own family, my 5*Great Grandfather was John Mullet who had at least 8 children in Buckland Newton in the period 1787-1804. I have not traced this line further back as yet, so perhaps there is a connection to Martha. Hope this helps Jon Baker Dorset OPC Co-ordinator www.opcdorset.org -----Original Message----- Richard SNOOK baptised in Piddletown and he married Martha MULLETT 2 August 1767, Puddletown.
