Author: andystevens166 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.dor.general/6267.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Jon, The births I am looking for are between 1814 and 1819. As I found when looking through the volumes at the Dorset history center the surname Stevens or Stephens dosn't appear in the records for this parish (http://www.opcdorset.org/CharltonMarshallFiles/CharltonBaptisms1813-1852.htm). What I find strange is 3 individuals consistantly state they are born Charlton, Dorset in 1851, 1861 and 1871 so a total of 9 returns and yet there is no entry in the parish records. This is what led me to look for an alternative Charlton. Thanks, Andy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Charlton Horethorne is actually a Somerset parish depsite some of the entries in the censuses (though it is close to the Dorset County Boundary). For example in 1851 John Hiscock born Charlton aged 11 living in Blandford, can be found in the Dorset OPC Charlton Marshall baptisms of 1840: Mar 8 - John son James & Susannah HISCOCK of Charlton, labourer Jon Baker Dorset OPC Co-ordinator www.opcdorset.org Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have been trying to find entries for a number of ancestors in the Dorset parish records who are listed as coming from Charlton. I have looked in Charlton Marshell and Charlton Horethorne parish records but so far had no luck. Has anyone got any suggestions as to which parish Charlton refers to or may be has had the same problem and worked it out? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Do you know anything about his forebears? I believe his parents were Thomas and ELizabeth and his grandparents were Scipio(nis) Lambert and Helen Staple, married 25 Jan 1672.
