The ist. child of Kennard James was Thomas Kennard Kingsbury (a master blacksmith & farrier) b. 29th. July 1851 & who married Ann Merrington in 1871. They had two children Thomas Francis (a black smith and farrier) b.1872 d.12th August 1948 & Harriet b. 1881. Thomas Francis married Jane Newland b.1874 d.14th. December 1935 on 6th. August 1894 they had 10 children two of which died very young. He & his labourer could Shoe 4 cart horses a day from straight steel bar. He was my grandfather.     3. Hello Richard, I would suggest you get in touch with the Dorset Record Office in Dorchester. You can e-mail them & ask them if they have a copy of the licence if it still exists. If you keep the request brief they will probably give you this information but you will have to pay for a copy of the licence. As regards why there are so many marriages by licence maybe there is a large naval or merchant navy settlement or even military, you do not say what his occupation was. Not easy as there are road works at the end of Victoria Road. Anyway, I could not see anything that looked like a residential home, and the street view on Google is a private house which is new, and for sale. Sorry if I raised your hopes only to dash them. You could try the Gillingham Museum, they are on the internet and would have local knowledge (mine is 30 years out of date !)     3. Has anyone done research on the Hardy family who lived in Melbury Bubb?I am trying to find the father of: John Hardy.b1644.d 1715.He married Lucy ? 1680,she died 1697. Many people used a neighbouring parish church if it was more convenient to where they actually lived or sometimes if they had a falling-out with the parish vicar they took their business elsewhere. Our OPC records are not as extensive for Spetisbury but there are a couple of Stevens' baptisms (Charles & Eliza in 1819/1823) and several marriages.
