There are Christophers in Cheselbourne, a hamlet just north of Dewlish. You can find a line of descent from a couple of them through the Gover tree which is very well documented on the web. Malcolm Vincent -----Original Message----- From: dorset-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:dorset-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Sue Stead I have a friend living in Dorset (Maureen Day, nee Christopher) who is very keen to get in touch with any present-day cousins. She is a granddaughter of Francis John Christopher (known as John) who was born in 1867 in Moor Critchel. Francis John had 3 brothers, Arthur Edward b 1870, Albert George (known as George) b 1872 and William Harry (known as Harry) b 1877. Maureen is sure that there must be some descendants of these brothers around. The parents of these 4 boys were John Christopher born 1840 in Gussage St Michael and his wife Ellen Ridout born 1845 at Sixpenny Handley. John Christopher had 11 siblings so it seems even more likely that there must be some descendants of these. The siblings were Emma 1841, Charles 1843, Ann Eliza 1847, William 1850, Elizabeth 1852, Thomas 1855, Henry 1857, Charlotte 1859, Frank Charles 1861, Emma Lavinia 1861 and Jane 1863. The 1861 census indicates he was born in Charmouth. He married Mary FOLLETT on 10 August 1829 in Whitchurch Canonicorum. They appear on the 1841 census there with children Robert, Mary and James. I cannot locate the family in 1851, but daughter Mary was living in Winsham, Somerset with her mother's uncle William FOLLETT. In 1861 James and Mary were living in Whitchurch Canonicorum with sons Robert and James. (Daughter Mary had married William BROWN in 1855 in Bridport.) And that's where I've lost them. I do believe they had a daughter called Ann who was christened 29 May 1830 and died before 1841, and another son called James who was christened 24 January 1834 but died before 1838, the birthdate of the second son called James. Thank you for any help with James' family. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi Lyn I assume you got the information from the Parish Burials on the FMP website. Unfortunately this database does not include any notes there may be in the burial register. The full entry in St Nicholas Church, Broadwey burials register is as follows ;- 12 December 1819, Thomas WHITTLE age 85, Clerk of this Parish. I think you mean Bincombe NOT Bddicombe. Sometimes the parish clerk is identified on the bishop's transcripts. You'd need access to the microfiche as this is unlikely to be transcribed.
