With regard to what you have found so far, I take it that you took the marriage details from Ancestry without checking the original index. Ancestry has a transcription error: The original index pages for Marriages Mar 1/4 1931 reads: Lucas Lewis J - Cox - Frome - 5c 635 Cox Elsie - Lucas - Frome - 5c 635 (As listed on both FreeBMD & FMP) Frome is the District (not necessarily the actual place of marriage). You would need to obtain the actual certificate in order to verify the place of marriage (unless you can find an entry in a parish register). His children appear to be as follows: Lewis W A Lucas (probably William) Anthony D R Lucas Gillian M F Lucas As listed on FreeBMD & Ancestry) It is not acceptable to give full details on this messageboard as these people may still be living. If you would like more details, please e-mail me direct on van.m @ o2.co.uk and I will be more than happy to provide them. (The details of where they were registered appear to confirm that my earlier e-mail is correct and it is your Lewis on the 1911 census in Bruton, Wincanton District). Also the fact that two of the children appear to have middle names after their grandparents also makes the 1911 census entry extremely likely. If you think that it is your man, then his birth was registered as: Louis John Lucas - June 1/4 1902 - Wincanton - 5c 371 It is important to as far as one is able to check the original sources. Can I suggest that if you're intending to go back further that you check out both FreeBMD & FreeREG and also the Frome Research Website @ http://www.fromeresearch.org.uk and join the Frome Group on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Frome and it's sister site Frome Hundred CMBs (which has all the parish records)- details on how to join this are on the main Frome Group Site. These are all free sites and wonderful for anyone researching Somerset Ancestry frome the Frome area. I hope this helps, Kindest Regards, Vanessa Dorset Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello I’m looking for information about George Joyce who lived in the area of Blandford, Dorset in the late 1700’s. I believe he was married to Margaret Pelly in Blandford. They had a son James Joyce born in 1806 in the same area. James moved to Flat Islands, Newfoundland in 1824. James Joyce is my great-great grandfather and I am researching my earlier Joyce family from Dorset, England. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you Gloria Bradbury.
Dear Listers, Does anyone have a connection to this man, from Poole, Dorset, England, who married Margaret SMITH/DIVEN about 1739, and died in York Co., PA, USA? Any information would be sincerely appreciated. Lynne

I have searched all the names in the Kitcat family history I have in my possession and there are no Thomases. I must try and find a way to copy and upload the family history for the benefit of others, however there are 70 pages!! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, there is a Frederich John T SHERING birth registered in the second quarter (Apr/May/Jun) of 1890 at Fordingbridge in Hampshire - GRO reference 2b 654. Thinking that this might have been an error in the spelling, I checked in the 1891 and 1901 census records. Frederick J. T. SHERING (1890) appears at Fordingbridge in 1891 with parents Israel and Eliza, along with siblings Charles J(1880), Harry(1883), Minnie(1885), Ernest W(1886), Lucy M(1887) - ref RG12 909 61 7. The family appear at Froyle in Hampshire in 1901 with an additional sibling, Edgar(1892) - ref RG13 1100 76 21. I have not been able to find a marriage for Frederick SHERING but there is a marriage record for Frederick J T SHEARING at Kingston, Surrey (about 55kM from Froyle)in the third quarter of 1913. The spouse is Alice M Hobson and GRO reference is 2a 1037. Neither of these 'Fredericks' are conclusively yours but you may recognise some of the names of siblings or feel that these are worth following up. Changes in the spelling of surnames are not uncommon, for a variety of reasons. Good luck with your quest. Derek Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am looking for any information about the Shearing ancestry. My grandfather. Frederick John Travers Shearing, born 22 April 1890 came to Perth, Western Australia somewhere about 1920. From records found through this program, it appears he was married previous to coming to Australia and marrying my grandmother. My user name is Robert_Shearing. Author: osborneursula Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.england.dor.general/6081.3/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi I found the marriage for Joseph Cornick and Ruth Spencer. However, I believe this to have been wrongly recorded, and her name should have been recorded as Spicer. Successive Census returns show Ruth to have been born in Belchalwell, and there was a Ruth Spicer born 1805 to Robert Spicer, unsure where from, and Mary Robbings, of Belchalwell. I am descended from Emma Cornick who married Thomas Davis in 1860. Her brother Edmund married Sussanah Thomas in 1856. I do not know what became of Ann. Ruth Cornick lived until she was 90 and died after the 1891 Census which showed her to be living with several of her grandchildren. I can trace the Robbings family back to the 1730s, but as to Robert Spicer, I can take the family forward but no further back. I think the Dorset Online Parish Clerk site use mainly Bishop's Transcripts which stop in the early 1730s because of the 'Great Fire of Blandford' which burned anything prior to then. I think the only answer is to look in Dorchester Record Office. I think that Belchalwell Records may pose a problem all round as the church also had a fire. I have drawn a blank with George Cornick and Ann Baller, and the only record I can find which is around the right date shows a birth in Hooke, 9/2/1772 to Reuben and Catherine Cornick, however, I am not entirely sure. Hooke is not too far from Froome Vauchurch and Maiden Newton which are contiguous (one ends where the other begins). I hope this helps.
