    1. Re: [DORRIS] Dorris Connection?

    3. Hi. I couldn't help but notice these e-mails. I have a Dorris line that has been a brickwall for a long time know. The furthest I can trace it back is to Rev. John W. Dorris who married Elizabeth Boss in the mid 1840's. He was born 8 Mar 1804 in New York City and died on 26 Nov 1879 in Chester, NY. He was a Circuit Rider for the Methodist Church. John and Elizabeth were my GGG Grandparents. I have been able to determine that his mother's name was either Almira or Elmira. But that's where it ends. I have yet to find proof of who his father was. So how do I get it touch with Calvin Dorris? I have never heard of Gencom before. I am hoping maybe he may have some information on my Dorris line or can point me in the right direction. Thanks so much. :-) Kathleen A. I am from the Dorris line and can go back to William, the patriarch, but Calvin is un-believeablely good , best regards, Ron rvarner@covad.net ----- Original Message ----- From: <DebraDorris@Cableone.net> To: <DORRIS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 30, 2004 3:58 PM Subject: [DORRIS] Dorris Connection? > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Surnames: Dorris > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/lNT.2ACEB/259 > > Message Board Post: > > Does anyone know the names of the original seven sons that came from Ireland? Were they the sons of William or his brothers? Did they bring families? I'm confused with William being married to Mary Williams or William being married to Mary Roark or are these actually two different Williams. I am finding different children linked to each set of these people, some duplicated. Also, where in Ceasar's Commentaries is the landgrant found? I have not been able to find it. I have fould a reference to "Duricus", meaning from the land of Doris (pronounced Door'us, possibly the Roman soldier/Greek General Josef Doris referenced in some of the stories?), but I can't find the part about County Down being awarded to General Doris. I have found quite a bit of information on the people from ancient Doris in ancient Greece, but I'm still having trouble putting things together. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
