I have been working on the Dorris line only about five months since I discovered that I am also a descendant of William Dorris, 1710-1795. I grew up in Robertson County, TN, and the Dorris family is plentiful, There were three families that were descendants of Dorris living on properties bordering our farm, and one worked as a contract laborer and lived on the farm for some 25 years. I live in a county adjoining Robertson County, TN, and I make frequent trips to the county, where my brother and I own the family farm. I also visit with some frequency the Archives of Robertson County, TN, and I have become know there, partially because my father, as a school administrator there for 33 years, was well known. If I can be of assistance, I would be happy to supply you with a look-up or with other information. I am attempting to place the ancestry of as many of the Dorris family as I can. Most of them (maybe all) do not know that they are descendants of four Dorris brothers that came to the county and adjoining Sumner County. along with John McMurtry and others, about 1790 - 1810. John McMurtry's wife, Mary Margaret (Peggy) Gomer McMurtry, was a grand child of William Dorris, by Sarah (Sally) Dorris Gomer. I have know ever since I was a child that I was a descendant of John McMurtry, 1752 - 1841, and I have known for a long time that Sarah (Sally) Dorris was his wife' mother. But it never dawned on me until I started running the ancestry of Nancy Johnson (Coleman), who is also a descendant of one of my Fisher ancestors, that the Dorris in Robertson County, TN, also had a common ancestry with me. Incidentally, the ancestry data that I have back to William Henry David Dorris came from an approved DAR application. Georgia Ann Moss was a descendant of Thomas Fisher, 1760-1841, a Revolutionary war participant, upon whose service Nancy Johnson claimed membership in the DAR. Gerald Fisher
