    2. Hi Stacy, Good to hear more news about the Broadwell family. Where are you currently located? I'm in Roswell, GA (still close to the Crabapple Community) and my parents still live in Crabapple. I attended Crabapple Baptist Church up until my young adult years and Carl Jameson was the pastor there when I left. You mentioned the Ruckers in your e-mail - I'm also related to the Rucker family (my mother's maiden name is Rucker). Would like to hear more from you. Nancy Boldin

    1. Re: Dorris Family in Ga.
    2. Nancy, I too grew up in Crabapple and am related to you. IsaDora was the sister of my great-grandfather Charles Brechenridge Dorris. Charlie B was the oldest son of Jasper and Francis. My grandmother was Charlie's daughter Maggie Onnie Dorris Dempsey. She passed away this past Saturday at age 97. You will appreciate this... During the funeral service (Reverend Carl Jameson) said that back in the day when he was courting his wife Ruth you had to be a Rucker, Dorris, or Broadwell to get into Crabapple, or be married to one. hehehe. Reverend Carl Jameson is related to me through my mother's family and I went to Crabapple Baptist Church as a kid, when he was the pastor of that church. He also is related to the Crabapple Dorris', which is how he got in to court Ruth. I hope to hear back from you. Stacey Dempsey-Lantzer

    2. Dave, I've posted on several of your messages. I'm through the Crabapple Georgia line where James Dorris and Nancy Cook, Jasper Newton Dorris and Francis are all buried. My grandmother Onnie Dorris Dempsey passed away this week at the age of 97, so I have alot of the family history straight from Jasper's grandchild. I'll be happy to fill you in on what I know. As far as the multi ways to say it and spell it, I'd say Ireland and Holland are the points where things are somehow mixed together. I bet one day someone will have enough of this family mapped out to figure out the answers to the questions. Maybe that someone will answer this posting. This research is so exciting when you find a new piece or connection, or some tidbit to better understand how this family developed and grew. Hope to hear from you soon. Stacey Dempsey-Lantzer

I have a lot of good information, if you are interested. Jasper's parents were James Dorris Jr and Nancy Cook (Cooke). Hope to hear from you soon Stacey Dempsey-Lantzer

    1. Re: Possible Connection
    2. Hi, The estimated date of 1769 came from a book called Days Gone By.. Vol. II, by Caroline Dillman, page 243. This book was (maybe still is) sold by the Roswell Historical Society, and is a history of many families of the Roswell/Crabapple/Alpharetta area. Vol. I also has a lot of information and pictures. The author got this information from Glenda McCracken of Augusta, Georgia. Dillman has interviewed several of the Dorris' for the information she has published in these historical books and newpaper columns. There is a second source I got off GenForum posted by Keith Midgette in 1999. He says William Dorris emigrated from County Down, Ireland to Virginia in 1769, and moved to Edgefield County. Now if this is true, then the question of where James was born appears resolved. Many of the posting I have seen and text I have read say it is unclear if James was born in Ireland or South Carolina. William and Violetta married in 1745, William Jr. b 1750, John b. 1753 and James b. 1757. Provided the year of emigration is correct, James would have been born in Ireland and was around 12 years old when they came over. I have been looking for a passenger list to confirm what ship they came over on and date. But, I have had no luck so far. Do you know of any good sources to find this data? I had been looking for lists around the 1757 timeframe due to the "not sure where James was born question", but the two sources of this 1769 date are telling me I'm looking for records 12 or so years to early. I would appreciate any additional information or links you have on our family. My direct email is usslantzer@aol.com

    1. Re: Possible Connection
    2. Even though we spell the last name differently, we are related. I am descended through William's line. Where did you get the info that William and Violette came over around 1769? I've never heard that. I got a lot of my info from www.my-ged.com/db/index/edwards/802. There is info on over 150 Dorris' there. Some of it is extensive a lot of it is skimpy. You seem to have most of the info on John. He was the middle son, and James was the youngest. Their birthdates are there. I have most of it in textual form and have just completed a web page with the info represented graphically. I'd have to get you a password for that if you want it but that's easy. I have the line (with a lot of help from others) traced down through my grandfathers generation. It's not complete but it's fairly thorough, at least through my line. If you want any of this info let me know.

    1. Re: Theresa Blasing Dorris
    2. Dear Chris, You are related to me. My great grandparents were Carl Blasing and Caroline Kelz Blasing. They had Carl Jr. who married Minnie Zander. They had several children one of which is your Theresa Blasing. They are all from the Lemont Illinois area. I was there a couple of weeks ago and was researching some family tree. Will County is very backward and expensive so I did not get any documents. However. I did find a land plat map at the Joliet Library and copied that with the land that they owned. Many funny and sad stories in our family tree. If you wish please contact me back. Sincerely, Rebecca Ward

    1. Re: Dorris Family Of Saline Co. IL
    2. I think we are related. My great grandmother was Ida May Dorris who was the daughter of Elijah Dorris and Mary Jane Cook. Do you know what Elijah died of? Your ancestor was older when he died. My great grandmother's life was pretty tough after her father died and her mother remarried. I believe her mother married a man by the name of Puckett. I know that her little brother Chalen died when he was little which was very sad for her. Ida married Joseph Snyder. Would love to hear from you about Ida's brother.

    1. Re: DORRIS
    2. Is everyone's DORRIS line fromt he south. I am looking for anyone that might connect to a DORRIS line in the US starts in Allegheny Co., PA. Francis DORRIS had a son William DORRIS who lived and had children in Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., He is listed on the 1850 census with his children. Then he is on the 1860 census in Fulton Co., IL with some of his children (I assume the older ones married and stayed in PA). He then moved on to Neosho Co., KS. According to all census records William was born in Ireland, so I wondering if he could be related to some of these other DORRIS lines, but justed headed out a different direction. Any help would be appreciated. Darlynn Chino Hills, CA
