Dorris. I am interested in where you received information about his 2'nd wife Bell Delana Wadsworth. His 1'st wife was Bethena Wadsworth according to the 1850 Arkansas Census for St.Frances County. I would like to document that Bell Delana Wadsworth was his 2'nd wife. My mother wrote notes for both Guest and Dorris families. Her Mother was Mary Alezina "Molly" Dorris. She wrote that the maiden name was Wardsworth, but I accept that the 2 names are very similiar, and she wrote this when she was elderly. Please email me if you can as I would like to discuss several things with you. You are right on with Texanna Fulfer and John Dorris. My mother called Melinda D. Dorris "Minnie". She wrote quite a bit about her, her marriages, children etc. I would like to know how to find some records of them after they moved to Texas. They are not on any Texas Census records until 1880 where I found them in Hunt County. However Bell Delana was not included. Did she remarry, or did she live with relatives? I have a lot of info about the Dorris Family & would like to share information with someone who know about this.

They had a daughter, Eva in 1881 who died in 1944. I have no other information except that they had Eva in Sedalia, Missouri. I do not know if there were any other children. I do not know where Martha or William are from but rumor in the family says Martha had some connection to Mississippi. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Dorris -- he applied for the pension in July 1909. Stated he was 68 years old, born AR, lived in TX 60 years, presently in Erath Co. -- 20 years in Huckaby, Rte 1. and was a farmer. He had several people offer testimony about him and that he had lived in TX and served TX in the C.W. (he was in a KY regiment before he transferred to TX) This was a pretty big file -- in it also was the mortuary warrant that Lula Dorris applied for in 1923. E.B. died 23rd May 1923 in the town of Thurber, Erath Co. Lula also lived in Thurber. (Lula was his dau) Yes, I would like the info on John Johnson Dorris. Do you have a listing of E.B. Sr's kids? I meant to look at the 1880 census again -- will do that and get back to you later. Sherry Happy Halloween!!!

Anyhow, here's some background info for you -- one thing that I'm kind of fussy about -- naming sources -- if I didn't do the work I don't take credit for it or appropriate it. Another researcher, David Gibson, and I worked on the Dorris line for several years -- before the "information highway" was really rolling -- lots of microfilm work, leg work etc. O.k., Bennett Dorris b ca 1813 in TN was most likely son of a William Dorris & Emily Curl Dorris -- we have no proof that Wm was the father, however, in doing lots of research we place him as the father. Wm died after 1833 and before 1840 -- his widow moved to Mississippi in that time period. This family moved around alot -- TN, AL, KY, AR & MS. Bennett Dorris was in St. Francis Co AR in 1850 -- age 37, with w/Bethena D. age 28 b AL., children: Erastus B. age 9 AR, Helen E. 8, Melinda D. 4, Bethina H. 3, Matilda C. 1, & a Martha C. Wordsworth 20 born MI <?>, and Martha I. McDaniel 15 b MI. Some think Bethena/Belle Delana was a Wordsworth/Wadsworth. I don't know. In 1860 Bennett & family were in Cass Co TX. This was really hard to read (census) B.M. age 49 $1800, $6125. b KY., E. 18 M, AR, E.E. 17 f, Malinda 14 F, AR, M., 13 F AR, James 9 m, Ar, I or J 7, m, AR, JJ 5 m, TX and Mary 3 f TX. Now, next door is a M.I. Laynier <?> age 7 f, D. Dorris 47 F, b MS -- this has to be Belle Delana?, about 10 houses down is a Wadsworth family -- didn't write info down. I found where I have the kids of Erastus Sr and John Johnson- got that off the internet. You have that? Bennett's siblings were Kinchen C. Dorris b ca 1805 TN, died after 1860, Elizabeth Dorris b ca 1816 died after 1860 MS, Nancy Caroline Dorris b ca 1818 KY d after 1880 MS Martha C. Dorris b ca 1823 Al d after 1880 MS, Joseph W. b ca 1825 Al. (w/o looking I think he died in CW), William D. b 1822 Al, d after 1880, and my guy, James Dorris b 1807 Tn d 1878 -- TX (went to see his son William E.) I don't think I forgot anybody. I have a big problem! -- my disk is messed up with my Dorris info- am going to have to redo it and make several backup copies (duh) -- guess then I can bring it up to date. If you want more details I can mail you a copy -- I think I have all the pages! Sherry

Actually, I didn't know there was an Erastus Jr? I spent some time a few years ago looking into the Texas branch, but got discouraged and since it's not my direct line, put it on the back burner. Part of my line went to Texas too -- William E. Dorris, MD. -- he & his family were in the Tarrant Co area. He was a son of James Dorris who was brother to Bennett Dorris. Thank you for your info -- I'll go look at the obit now -- give me a few days to pull out Dorris info -- I've got file folders filled!!! -- Sherry P.S. I do have the Civil War info on Erastus Sr -- need to get that stuff out and refresh my memory on that branch of the family. I couldn't find any of them in TX in 1870, did find John Johnson later -- probably 1880, need to check that out too, he was living with a couple of his sisters & some little kids. Erastus Sr. was living with a dau when he died -- accdg to the C.W. pension file.

He was a batchelor until he married my granny. He never had any kids but spoiled my mother & granny rotten. He was a wonderful man. Thanks for all your help. Mae
