    1. Re: [DORRIS] Dorris Connection?
    2. Kathleen Prior
    3. Hi. I couldn't help but notice these e-mails. I have a Dorris line that has been a brickwall for a long time know. The furthest I can trace it back is to Rev. John W. Dorris who married Elizabeth Boss in the mid 1840's. He was born 8 Mar 1804 in New York City and died on 26 Nov 1879 in Chester, NY. He was a Circuit Rider for the Methodist Church. John and Elizabeth were my GGG Grandparents. I have been able to determine that his mother's name was either Almira or Elmira. But that's where it ends. I have yet to find proof of who his father was. So how do I get it touch with Calvin Dorris? I have never heard of Gencom before. I am hoping maybe he may have some information on my Dorris line or can point me in the right direction. Thanks so much. :-) Kathleen A. 1. Re: [DORRIS] James Dorris

    3. There is a James Dorris that is the father of Frances A. J. Dorris b. 1841 in Georgia. The mother's name was Helen E. (maiden name unknown.) Try the Tallapoosa County estate records. Both James and Helen died in Tallapoosa County. Frances Dorris first married Joseph Lyon. He deserted her and put her back on her father. These records are in Tallapoosa Co. Court house. In 1862 she became the 2nd wife of Peterson Gideon Brogdon, my 4th great grandfather. I have the James Dorris papers from Elmore County, AL. Elmore was taken from Tallapoosa Co. when they split in 1866. The court papers gives James & Helen's children as; H. C. Dorris, Eliza Freeman wife of G. W. Freeman, Frances Brogden (my side), E. M. Bullard (a widow), A. C. Little wife of T. C. Little, G. S. Gray wife of James Gray, Delilah Welden wife of J. W. Welden, J. B. Dorris, Sarah I. Dorris. Grandchildren; Margaret D. Dorris, dau of William Dorris deceased, who was the son of James Dorris deceased, and James L. Parker (a minor) and son of Caroline Parker deceased who was a dau of James Dorris deceased. Don't know if this helps, but sure hope it does. 1. DORIS Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Thelma DORIS taken at the Praeff's Studio in Oxford, New York. The photograph was probably taken sometime between 1910-1925 with Thelma noted as 9 1/2 years of age the time. It is hard to tell is DORIS is her surname or middle name so I'm exploring both possibilities just in case. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [DORRIS] Rebecca
    2. Ann Gasser
    3. My great-great grandmother was Rebecca Dorris who may have been born in 1803 in Sumner County, TN or possibly in Virginia (depending on what records one sees.) She married Ezekiel Hodges in 1823, and I have no information on her family. Does anyone have information on Rebecca's family? I would like to know who her mother and father were, and any siblings she may have had. Ann Gasser

    1. [DORRIS] Dorris' in Alturas, California Cemetery
    2. Leora Monroe
    3. Hello- I have pictures of all the Dorris headstones in the Alturas, California cemetery. Not all the Dorris' are buried in the same section of the cemetery, also. There are also Dorris relatives in the same cemetery with different surnames. I live 2 blocks away from the Alturas cemetery, so if anyone wants me to look for someone in paticular, or if you would like any pictures, please let me know.
