---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- The sulfnbk.exe Hoax Original posting date: May 23, 2001 Updated date: December 12, 2001 The Sulfnbk email hoax is back! It asks you to forward a false virus alert to everyone you know. Please do not follow the instructions in the email -- when you propagate such hoaxes: 1. Some people you send it to may become truly upset and frightened by this hoax. 2. When a lot of people almost simultaneously send this hoax to everyone in their address book, email systems get congested and slow. End update Many people are receiving an email warning about a new virus that is undetected by antivirus software. The warning is a hoax; it is a revival of an old hoax that littered the Internet several years ago. The message may be in one of several languages, and contains instructions on how to search for and remove a file called sulfnbk.exe. The message claims this file is a virus; it is not. The file, sulfnbk.exe, belongs on your computer. It's part of the Windows 95 and 98 operating system. Do not forward this message or follow its instructions. If you've already removed the sulfnbk.exe file because of this hoax, don't worry. Your computer doesn't actually need the file; it's used only rarely by computer technicians. For more information about this hoax, see: http://www.datafellows.com/hoaxes/sulfnbk.shtml http://vil.nai.com/vil/virusSummary.asp?virus_k=99084 Text of the Hoax Message The text of the message is in several languages; here is a rough translation: FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS, I HAD IT!!!!!.... I received this message from a friend and today it is true. I searched for the file following the next instruction and I found it, I had it without knowing. Neither Norton 2001, or McAfee can detect it, I have that software installed and the virus wasn't detected. This virus is arriving hidden inside the e-mails. Because an advertisement I could detected it (I have it without knowing) and I could deleted it. Search it following this instructions: 1) Go to Start 2) Then Find 3) Then For Files or Folders 4) Type: sulfnbk.exe 5) Delete it (do not open it) 6) Empty Recycle Bin Because of your instructions I can deleted it...
