    3. Hi Sally-- Forgive me if you've already tried it, but the Rootsweb site has a link to the Social Security Death Index. You only need the name of your ancestor/relative, not the SS #. If your relative had enrolled in SS (given her age, she might not have been), and is now dead, you will at least know where her last SS check was sent. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: nfduv@juno.com <nfduv@juno.com> To: DONOVAN-L@rootsweb.com <DONOVAN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Tuesday, January 02, 2001 4:21 PM Subject: [DONOVAN-L] Sally Ruth Donovan Motte :I am trying to find what happened to an aunt, Sally Ruth Donovan Motte. :Her husband was Leroy Val Motte. 3. Hi-- I got your message on the Donovan list from rootsweb. My grandfather was Denis Donovan, also from Skibbereen area, and family tradition holds that one of his uncles might have come over via Canada and then ended up in Massachusetts, near Boston.I haven't verified that. However, my question to you is, are you sure the name of the village, or parish, is Drummig? There is a village called Drumbeg near Skibb..perhaps Drummig is a spelling variation? -----Original Message----- From: Wlfndl@aol.com <Wlfndl@aol.com> To: DONOVAN-L@rootsweb.com <DONOVAN-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Saturday, January 06, 2001 4:45 PM Subject: [DONOVAN-L] Re: DONOVAN-D Digest V00 #99 :I have Donovans who settled when Lawrence first stated out. 1845-7. 1. [DONOVAN-L] 1600's-1700's England & VA
    2. Hello, Re: PARTRIDGE - WILSON - WILLIAMS - KELLY - STOKES - BELL - DONIPHAN - JENNINGS - WILLOUGHBY - PAYNE - EDRINGTON - ROBINSON - RIVETT - EIDSON/EDISON - COLCLOUGH surnames that connect in 1600's - 1700's England and/or Virginia. I want to lead this query by saying that I am very grateful to Linda KELLY (KELL) and John COLCLOUGH for recently sending me information that has helped uncover some missing pieces of information in my JENNINGS - KELLY - DONIPHAN - PARTRIDGE ancestry for which I have been searching. I am looking for any information on the following, (below listed,) probable PARTRIDGE sisters and their various marriages and family connections, (listed below,) and searching for whom their parents were as well as more information about the connecting families including the WILSON/WILLSON line and a possible connecting WILLIAMS line for my 4th great grandmother, (wife of Samuel EARLE, IV, (Sgt./Rev. War,) born: 1766 in Fauquier Co., VA,) who was Tabitha WILLIAMS, born: 1766, daughter of Catherine "Caty" ? and George WILLIAMS who is thought to be the son of Anne WILLIAMS and Roger WILLIAMS who is descended from James WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1572 in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, and his wife, Alice PEMBERTON, born: 18 Feb 1564 in St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England, died: 01 Aug 1634, London, England, (mother: Katherine STOKES, died: aft. 1578, father: Robert PEMBERTON, born: abt. 1520, died: 16 Jul 1578. (Is this Katherine STOKES related in any way to the Hannah STOKES who married John BELL, Jr., born: abt. 1700, (mother: Ann BENNETT, (father: Richard BENNETT, Jr., (father: Richard BENNETT, Sr.,) and father: John BELL, Sr., born: abg. 1668 in Surry Co., VA, died: 17 Jun 1713.) I have no parents for Hannah STOKES nor the above mentioned Katherine STOKES. Hannah STOKES and John BELL, Jr.'s son, John BELL, (3,) married a Phoebe STOKES who was the daughter of a Silvanus STOKES but don't know an exact connection yet for Hannah STOKES to their family. (The above mentioned Samuel EARLE, IV, (Sgt./Rev. War,) born: 1760, was the 2nd son of his father, Samuel EARLE, III, (Major,) born: 1692 to be named Samuel EARLE, IV, with the 1st to be of that name being his 1/2 brother, Samuel EARLE, IV, born: 1727, who died in his 20's, who was the son of Samuel, III, and his 1st wife, Anna SORRELL, and my Samuel, IV, was the son of Samuel, III, and his much younger 2nd wife, Elizabeth HOLBROOK, born: abt. 1733, (mother: Jannett/Jeanette PATTISON, (husband # 1: Henry CONYERS,) father: Randolph HOLBROOK, Jr..) Samuel EARLE, III, (Major,) born: 1692 in Westmoreland Co., VA, (1st Member of the House of Burgesses from Frederick Co., VA, seat to be later held by (Gen.) George WASHINGTON,) was the son of Phillis BENNETT, (father: John BENNETT, (mother may have been Matillda ALLERTON, (1st husband was Samuel EARLE, I, and after his death she married her 2nd husband, William RUST, and after his death she married her 3rd husband, John BENNETT,) and Phillis BENNETT's husband, Samuel EARLE, II, son of Bridget HALE/HAYLES, (father: Thomas HAYLES/HALE,) and Samuel EARLE, I, son of Mary SYMONS, (parents: ??,) and (Sir) John EARLE, (son of (Sir) Richard EARLE.) Specifically this is regarding the ancestry of my 6th great grandmother, Ann KELLY, born: abt. 1696 in VA, (who married William JENNINGS, Jr.,) and Ann KELLY's father was John KELLY, born: abt. 1660, died: 04 May 1715, (mother: Penelope ?, father: Matthew KELLY, born: abt. 1640,) and Ann KELLY's mother was Amy DONIPHAN, born: abt. 1662, died: 04 Feb 1729, (md. 2nd husband, Edward RANSDELL.) Amy DONIPHAN's parents were (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN, born: 1640 in Plymouth, Devonshire, England, died: Feb 1717, and he was a merchant in England and then in Westmoreland Co., VA, and his 1st wife, Aimee ? (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN's 2nd wife was Margaret MOTT and his 3rd wife was Susannah ? (The above mentioned husband of Ann KELLY who was William JENNINGS, Jr. was born: bet. 1695 - 1700 in VA and died: 1732 in Richmond Co., VA, and he was the son of Mary WILLOUGHBY, born: abt. 1670, (parents: ??,) and her husband, William JENNINGS, Sr., born: abt. 1668 in VA, father: John JENNINGS, born: abt. 1633 in England, immigrated to Old Rappahannock, VA, and mother: Margaret PAYNE, (mother: (probably but not proven to be,) Margrett ROBINSON, (father: Richard ROBINSON,) father: John PAYNE, born: abt. 1615 in England, immigrated to Old Rappahannock, VA,) and Margaret PAYNE's 2nd husband was Christopher EDRINGTON. I had written the DONOVAN-L@rootsweb.com list asking if anyone had any other information regarding the ancestry of (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN and his 1st wife, Aimee ? One individual wrote back saying that (President) Harry S. TRUMAN was, also, descended from (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN. I also found some more information on a couple of websites...just brief entries regarding (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN being the ancestor of (President) Harry S. TRUMAN and, also, (Colonel) William B. TRAVIS, (of Alamo fame,) and I wrote the owner, John COLCOUGH, of one of the websites mainly featuring COLCOUGH family information that mentioned very briefly regarding (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN's wife, Aimee/Amy, as being named either RIVETT or PARTRIDGE and that she was the sister of a Mary whose surname was either RIVETT or PARTRIDGE who married John COLCOUGH whose lands were built what is now known as Quantico Marine Base. I wrote John COLCOUGH asking if he might possibly have any additional information regarding Aimee/Amy ?, wife of (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN. John COLCOUGH writes below in the forwarded email indicating that the wife of (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN was, indeed, named Amy PARTRIDGE and that she had sisters named (1.) Sarah PARTRIDGE, (md. Richard WILSON,) (2.) Mary PARTRIDGE, (md. John COLCOUGH,) (3.) Elizabeth PARTRIDGE, (md. Mr. ? YOUNG.) And Mr. COLCOUGH cites the source as researcher, Mary Lou RUTH, whose documentation of the sisters' names comes from The Lord Mayor's Office in London in a deposition of 1662. Interestingly enough, there is another PARTRIDGE connection over on my mother's side of the family. (The JENNINGS - KELLY - DONIPHAN - PARTRIDGE is my father's side.) From my maternal grandmother's line I descend from LAMKIN - COX - HATTEN/HATTON lineage.....from Jeremiah LAMKIN who was born abt. 1595 in Middlesex, England, died: 1660 in Surry Co., VA, and he was the father of sons, Robert, William and Thomas LAMKIN who was born in abt. 1620 in Northumberland Co., VA and married Elenor ? in abt. 1625 and their children included their son, George LAMKIN, born: abt. 1650, died: abt. 1691, who married Hannah COX, born: abt. 1652 in Westmoreland Co., VA, died: Sep 1744 and she married as her 2nd husband, Samuel DEMOURVILLE, (sp?,) and they had 4 children. Hannah COX is related somehow to Vincent COX, possibly a daughter by a first marriage or a neice or such, and George LAMKIN and Hannah COX had 5 children. Of the 5 children of Hannah COX and George LAMKIN were Joseph, Peter, James, John and George. I descend from James LAMKIN, born: abt. 1675/1680, DIED: 02 April 1736, also shown sometimes as John LAMKIN.....so not sure where the confusion comes in yet....and the son, George LAMKIN, II, born: abt. 1680, died: 1707, married Jane ASHTON who married as her 2nd husband a man named Richard PARTRIDGE in 1728. It is from James/John LAMKIN and wife, Jane LEWIS that it appears that my Lewis LAMKIN who married Mary LEWIS, (daughter of Lewis LEWIS,) descends and they were the parents of Mary LAMKIN who married Peter Lewis HATTEN and they were the parents of Lewis Lamkin HATTEN who married Sarah "Sally" UNDERWOOD and their son, William HATTEN, born: 1800 in Tar River, Nash Co., NC, married Frances Lucretia "Patsy" LOTT, born: abt. 1802 in AL, daughter of Absalom LOTT and Martha Jane Dorsey LIGHTFOOT, born: abt. 1763, father: Philip LIGHTFOOT. I am interested in finding out if the family of the above mentioned Richard PARTRIDGE who married Jane ASHTON (LAMKIN) is the same as that of my above mentioned 9th great grandmother, Amy/Aimee PARTRIDGE, who married (Captain) Alexander DONIPHAN. And, of course, looking to find the names of the parents of this Amy/Aimee PARTRIDGE. Anyway, I am thrilled to have a name for Aimee/Amy now.....PARTRIDGE. And we have our PARTRIDGE in a Pear Tree just in time for the Holidays as it came in late on New Year's Day! <lol> Looking forward to hearing from anyone with connecting information. Thanks. Interestingly enough, in one of my other lines....trying to remember which right offhand...which was back in early Virginia....one of my ancestors married a PARTRIDGE after the 1st spouse, my ancestor, had died. I think it is in my HATTEN/HATTON lineage.....or one of the surnames directly connecting at that time. Perhaps the LAMKIN or COX. I will look through information and get back with you if I find anything as there might be a connection to Amy PARTRIDGE's family as so very many of my various lines that I have found in Virginia in the 1600's - 1700's were related to each other then and prior to coming to America. 1. [DONOVAN-L] various tidbits
    2. >From Bayonne [NJ] Old and New by Gladys Mellor Sinclair, published in 1940, I noted the following. James J. Donovan was the mayor of Bayonne that year, 1940. This man won the Croix de Guerre for bravery in World War I and was also cited for bravery by the Italian government. A list of those who "made the supreme sacrifice" in World War I included Dennis F. Donovan. Also, "Mrs. Catherine Donovan has lived at 53 East Thirty-Third Street for 67 years." Hope these little tidbits prove helpful to someone. Good hunting and Happy New Year! Susan

Posted on: DONOVAN Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/o/DONOVAN/queries/94 Surname: Donovan Williams ------------------------- I am interested in a Donovan family consiting of Mother Julia, brothers Cornelius, John, William, and James. Possibly accompanied by their Aunt, Mary Donovan (Wiliiams) and her son Norry. They sailed on the Anglo Saxon, arriving in NY, NY on Jan. 9, 1854. Any confirmation that I have the names correctly connected by family or any information about their ancestors/descendants would be of interest. If this is the correct family, my ancestor is John and we have a substantial amount of data for him after his entry into the US.

    1. [DONOVAN-L] DONOVANs
    2. I am looking for a Bernard Donovan who came to the US circa 1850, into the east coast (NY?) with a brother named Thomas. Bernard married a Mary Ann Mackin, of Schenectady, NY. He worked on the railroad going west. He died in Creston, IA in the late 1800s. Bernard had many children including Joseph, my ancestor and a Thomas who was a cigar maker. Anyone have any news on this family? Thanks...Paul W.

    3. I wonder if the birth record I have for a Timothy Donovan from Clonakilty could be your guy. He was baptized on 26 December 1842 in the parish of Immaculate Conception, although it may not have been so named as if that date. His parents were James Donovan and Mary Hart, my distant unlce and aunt. Timothy was, then, a distant cousin. Sponsors were John Donovan and Catherine (illegible) possibly Cummins or Collins. Although I do not know when or even if he emigrated, I do know that his brother, James, who was born in 1846, did indeed emigrate to Massachusetts and settled in Georgetown, Essex, Massachusetts. Posted on: DONOVAN Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/o/DONOVAN/queries/93 Surname: Donovan, McCarthy, McAuliffe ------------------------- I am trying to find the parents, descendants, and relatives of 4 brothers who emigrated from the Clonakilty area between 1850-1890 to Boston, Lynn, and Lawerence, MA. Their names were Jeremiah, Timothy, Daniel, & Patrick. They had a sister named Annie who died before the voyage. In addition, Daniel went to the Yukon Gold Rush and never returned. So I'd be happy to talk to Donovans from Alaska, the Yukon, and other points north in case he survived and had descendants.
