Could I please make a request? When someone answers an e-mail message and posts the answer to DONOVAN-L, would you please indicate WHO the message is for? Messages that say."thanks for the information. Keep in touch" don't tell me what the information was to begin with, and who should keep in touch! Thanks!! Rosemary (rcindy)
Michael, I just discovered this board upon resuming my research after several years and I can't believe what I'm reading!. My Grandfather was James Donovan and his parents were Michael Donovan and Margaret Driscoll from Ballineen. James was born in 1888, died in 1949 in NYC a few years before I was born. He emigrated to U.S. in 1910. Married Mary Nestor and had three children, Rosemary, Helen and Cornelius. I don't have my papers with me right now (I'm at my office) but he did have brothers named Michael and Cornelius (my father was named after him). Also had a brother named Patrick but he didn't die in infancy. I'll look up my notes and let's compare some more.
Jo, Thanks for the info! The name Timothy Donovan may have some connection. Dennis had a son, named William Timothy, born April 6, 1857. He was the fourth child.
Penny, do you know if Raymond Thomas Donovan had any relation around Aurora, ILL? I am looking for relation to Timothy David Donovan, wife Hattie? I am looking for relatives of Mary Agnes Donovan - married Edward Blood in 1911. Her father was Michael - we think she is from Kilcrohane, Co. Cork. Any family memories here? May have relatives near Olean, NY. Father may have re-married.
I would be thrilled to be in touch. I have nothing and I am in Las Vegas and have not been able to get much info. Please keep me informed and let me know what you find. Can you send me what you have now? Thanks, Debbi (Donovan") Bryant In a message dated 7/10/2001 6:02:07 PM Pacific Daylight Time, DONOVAN-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: > "Vincent S. Update: Jeremiah O'Donovan was born around 1883 or so. Possibly his brother was the groundskeeper at Blarney castle. He could have lived in Blarney, Blackrock or Cork. My father is referred to as Jeremiah III. My grandfather's father was probably Jeremiah, his mother, we believe was Nora. He was married to his first wife, Mary Anne Egan in the townland of Lotabeag around 1899 or so. My aunt, Rita O'Donovan was born around 1910 and died in 1926. My grandfather remarried after Mary Anne died. He married Mary Ethel Mc Cormick in August of 1926 at St.Paul's Church in Belfast. My aunt, Marie O'Donovan Powers was 88 when she died in 1987 so she would have been born around 1899/1900. Harry could have been known as Henry and Frank could have been Francis. My grandfather was 43 when he remarried in 1926. My grandmother was 26. Jeremiah worked in the hotel business. He may have lived up in Derry for a time. Mary Anne was quite an excellent artist. Frank went to live i! n Redding, England. He married Peggy and had a daughter name Marie. He was in the British Army, he worked for the British Atomic Research. Harry was an electrical engineer, was in the Army and worked for the Leeds Post Office. Marie married Alan Powers and moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. If any of this sounds familiar or if anyone has any information about possible brothers and sisters of my grandfather's, please contact me! Thank you.
I am at a brick wall with my Donovan line. Hope someone finds this familiar. John Donovan, b. Ireland settled in Jonesport, Washington Cty., Maine in 1790. m. Anna Hicks MacDonald b. abt. 1770 d. aft. 1802. They had a number of children but the only one I have listed in front of me is Thomas, m. Elizabeth Atchison. They had Leonard Magee Donovan. Does anyone have a Washington County tie in? I don't know when John came to Maine or if he came to Canada first, which is my suspicion. Nor do I know his parents. Anything that might be a lead would be helpful. Thanks, Diana
This site has many census, birth and cemetary records for Washington County, Maine, which is the eastern most point in the US. Many Donovans. http://home.att.net/~n.c.hall/Census.html
My grandfather was Jeremiah O'Donovan. He was born approximately 1882. His first wife was Mary Anne Eagan. His second wife, my grandmother was Mary Ethel Mc Cormack. My father is Jerry Donovan. He was born in Belfast in 1939. My granddad was born in Cork and moved up to Belfast in the early 1920's? We don't know anything about him. He had the following children: Harry, Frank, Marie (Powers) O'Donovan, Gabrielle (Jenkins), Christina (Haughey), Alice (Ward), Paul, Josephine (McMullins) and Jeremiah Donovan. He dropped the O' after he left Cork. He also had the following deceased children: Jeffrey, Patrick, Mary, Bridget and Nora. There may have been more. If this is familiar, please respond. There is a family story that Jeremiah's father or grandfather worked as a groundskeeper at Blarney castle. This would have been around the times of the uprisings.
OOps! The census year was 1860, not 1890.
I think I may have found my gggrandfather, James Manning, in the 1890 New York city census. He married Catherine (20 in 1860) and had 2 children at that time: William (3) and Sarah (1). Sarah may be my ggrandmother. She married Matthew Donovan. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

We've just found out our great grandfather William J.Donovan was born in the USA(no state)in Oct.1850 according to the 1900 census. My father and his brothers think his father's name was Timothy. However, all my relations stayed in Manhattan and Brooklyn so far. If you would like, I'll keep you posted re my research. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Babysonus@aol.com> To: <DONOVAN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 04, 2001 11:06 PM Subject: [DONOVAN-L] Donovans from Cork > I am really interested in these postings.
