    3. Hi, My Donovan family did end up in Illinois..in Chicago. They moved here(Chicago) in 1893 from Janesville, Wi. The family was headed up by my gr-grandfather Jeremiah "Jerry" D. Donovan and his wife Mary Long Donovan. They had 7 children but only 5 moved to Chicago with them. The oldest son born in 1859...John Edward had married in 1886 and moved to Milwaukee and their oldest daughter Ellen "Nell" had died in the late 1880's. They also brought with them Jerry's in-laws, John and margaret Murphy Long. Both Jerry and Mary were born in Ireland. Jerry in 1821 and Mary in 1831. Her parents were from Kilmurray, Cty. Cork and crookstown, Cty. Cork. Margaret Long was born in 1797 and John Long in 1803. The Longs came to America in the 1830's and we think Jerry came from Ireland in the late 1840's. We think that Jerry and Mary married in Conneticut. Not quite sure how they got to Wisconsin or why they moved to Chicago(maybe more employment; or maybe family down in Chicago?) Jerry died May 4, 1894 and Mary died on Feb. 6, 1926 at 95/96 years old. Let me know if any of this sounds familiar....Good luck to you! I am looking for someone with links to the family of Jeremiah Donovan b.Aug. 15, 1857, Clonakilty, Cork, Ireland, and immigrated to American 1881, and lived in Batavia, Illinois, which is right next to Chicago. I think he might have relatives that lived in the Chicago area.
