Posted on: DONOVAN Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/surnames/d/o/DONOVAN/queries/86 Surname: Donovan, Harrington ------------------------- I am seeking a John Donovan who supposedly was born around 1830 in Irelend. He then ended up in Fall River, MA. He married a Catherine Hurley there on 5/22/1852 listing his parents as Eugene and Catherine. It seems he became some sort of hero in the civil war here. He had at least 2 children... Ellen Donovan and Owen Donovan. Ellen married my great grandfather, Jeremiah Harrington. They had 3 children... Charles, Maggie and John. I am trying to find where they came from in Ireland and any information about either side as I assume they came from the same place in Ireland. Thanks in advance for any information you may be able to provide.

Having recently returned from the Donovan Clan reunion in Co.Cork in June, my interest has been piqued and I am now looking for information regarding my family connections, if any, in Ireland. My Grandfather, Alfred Daniel Donovan came to South Africa in 1906 where he lived until his death whilst on holiday in England in 1929. The flyleaf of the family bible, which was badly damaged when it came into my posession, is not easily legible. It records that my Great Great Grandfather was Cornelius Donovan who married Mary Ann Fitzgerald. Cornelius and Mary had a son, Patrich (my Great Grandfather) who married Mary Ellen Geary in St.Patrick's Church, Cork in 187....?? (totally illegible) They in turn, had four children :- Alfred Daniel Donovan (my Grandfather) who was born in Wellington Road in the city of Cork, on 31 January 1876 Mary Donovan born - 23 November 187....?? (illegible) Catherine Donovan born - 16 May 1879 - died - 13 January 1881 Frederick Charles Donovan born 16 November 1881 I have been told that Frederick Charles Donovan also came out to South Africa atsome stage and worked as a journalist at a Johannesburg newspaper.
I recently viewed a television show on the Home Children in Canada from the 1930s. One of the people interviewed was Ken Donovan--a Home Child who was involved with the design and creation of the Canadian Flag (as we now know it) in the 1960s. For more information on this, point your browser to the following site: Canadian Heritage Online http://www.pch.gc.ca/symb/flag_e.htm#f4 Alternate sites with basically the same text are: Site of Paul Steckle, M.P. - Huron-Bruce http://home.istar.ca/~steckp/canadian%20flag.htm#f4 Touro College http://www.tourolaw.edu/ILSA/GS/Na/Ca/Flag.html Hope this of interest to someone! Hi Carrie, I sent your first message, to this list, to another cousin in Ste. Agathe. She has been working on the Donovan Family History for years. It is because of her research that I know we are from the same Donovan line. I do not want to publish her name and email address without her permission, so have sent it to you privately. She also has been given many of those unidentified family portraits. She brings them around on her visits to relatives and tries to get them identified. Hello, I have a charcoal picture of a couple that could be Michael Donovan and his wife Elizabeth (Powell) Donovan. They moved from Ste. Agathe Quebec to Alberta in 1906. Just to let you know I've decided that this is starting to become too much work and with another youngin' on the way I've decided to stop doing this (somewhere I know there are cheers out there). Unfortunately, time and making money are starting to become more important to me. I've been cutting back on my lists I'm subscribed to. I will probably remain on this one but as a lurker. Hope this helped someone out there and best of Luck to all the Donovan researchers. After the latter engagement he followed the fortunes of General Sheridan in his march through Georgia, participating in all of the battles of the Atlanta campaign as far as Jonesborough. In 1874 he was once again engaged in the coopering business, and was for eight years located at Rawson st. and for one year at 19 Coventry st.
