Born in 1857 (acc'd to tombstone) in Ireland (according to US Census Data), Thomas was living in Canada and married Ella McGrath Bef./Abt. 1880, probably married in Nova Scotia as this is where Ella's family is had lived for a few generations prior. May have been living in Ontario in 1883(?). Was in Illinois at some point in 1886 (child born there), probably as the family was moving south to Iowa. Thomas Was certainly living in western Iowa by 1890 when he died at age of 33. I am looking for any additional information on Thomas, how he came to Canada, and especially, any information on parents of Thomas. I would equally appreciate any information on other Donlan's (not necessarily related) in Nova Scotia in the early to mid 1800's. Hello LouAnn, I found the family in 1910, 1920, and 1930 and it always states that Margaret was born in Pennsylvania?? On the 1920 census, it states her first two children were born in Indiana. I am just tossing this out as I have found information relative to Mary Donlon Stephens, Cranford County, Iowa .......and her sister Ann Donlon, Cleveland,Ohio ... Note year 1885
Kim; Your address bounced. If you are still on this list contact me with information to Donlons Monroe County. NY
I am difficult to find at this computer. There are days when I spend an hour or so and there are others when I never look at it. I am on a medication , (at 83 I think I have become a hypochondriac... Until I was 72 the only thing I ever took was Tylenol on very rare occasions.. 2 to 3 times). Now I turn around and they have found something else I did not know I had. ... What are your questions ? I will try to answer them. The greatest problem I have found is that everyone has the same given name. I have a Patrick Donlon with a wife Catherine and a son Michael. Thank goodness I know where he is or was)... as with in 40 miles of him live 4 other Pats,,, 3 of them with a wife Catherine and a son Michael and all with in a year or two of age. My Michael was the son of John Donlon from West meath. Michael fought in the infantry for the Union,,, NY Corp.He returned from the war and the family store goes ... He walk around town ...walk up over the hill and never came back.. The town was Hornell NY.. in a river valley, river runs North and South, hills to the East and West. But that is only one problem... The others were solved earlier. I do not really need Michael's do complete a tree. My curiosity runs wild. I can see him walking around town and seeing what was there .. comparing to where he had been. his mental problems and his feeling for life. I was in WW II. USN By the time I was 19 I had been bomb several times , strafed, chased by E boats .. had seen NYC and Philadelphia and New Orleans and Chicago and Glasgow and London. I was from a small PA town. At 23 I came back . Things were never the same. My friends , like me , had gone their way. It took two years for me and then I packed up and went to college and another wasted year before I came to grips with everything and went on to get my degrees, No, I did not drink. I missed the tension. I could not relax. Let me know what you need I will see if I have it. Grant

I have a Michael Donlon., Father John Donlon imm to NY approx 1844. Michael Donlon fought for the Union in the Civil War. 4 other brothers also fought for the Union. Two were captured an held by the Confederates. This lead to the rumor that two fought for the Confederacy and three for the Union. Michael left and went west supposedly Ill. I am now trying to trace him and two other brothers. Grant
