It was rebuilt in 1824 at an expense of 370 pounds by the congregation and will contain about 800 pewrsons. The parish priest, the Revd Mr. O'Donnell, has 2 curates. The Roman Catholic parish includes the parish of Skits of Urney and Ardstraw. Urney Park, the seat of the Late Sir James Galbraith Bart and at which his widow Lady Galbraith is constantly resident, is a handsome modern house with portico situated in an extensive demesne looking over the plantations which divide it from the mail coach road to Sligo and over the grounds of Urney House to the River Finn. Gallony John Smith Esquire and Finn Cottage, belonging to Conolly Gage Esquire, situated on the banks of the Finn River near Castlefinn. The m ail coach roads from Londonderry to Dublin and to Sligo pass through this parish, the former parallel to the Mourne and close to its bank, the latter parallel to the Finn and in view of it. In the winter months they did weaving and spinning and other seasons agriculture. The Bishop of Derry, Marquis of Abercorn, heirs of Sir James Galbraith Bart, Conolly Gage Esquire, Revd Peter Maxwell, Lieutenant Colonel Bernard, Miss Jones Agnew and several Landlords, deriving from 100 to 500 (pounds) per annum. None were residence of the parish, except the widow of Sir James Galbraith. In the townland of Upper Alt, close to the east side of the raod from Castlefinn to Castlederg and about 3 miles from the former place, are some remarkable stones bearing the appearance of antiquity and called the Giant's Grave. The stones are 5 in number, 3 standing and 2 fallen. The largest standing stone is 5 feet hugh and seems sunk about 1 foot in the ground. The 2 fallen are each 6 feet in length about 4 broad and 2 thick.
