Hi folks Does anyone know of any lists for the Donegal Militia in the 1850's Would appreciate any help on this. Many thanks Muriel
Muriel I had some photocopies done of militia lists I found in PRONI. Needless to say I cannot lay my hands on them but a search of the archives for this list shows i did send them to the list last year. Just as well that works better than my filing system! They are much earlier than you wanted - about a 100 years earlier - but I reproduce them in case they are of help. The records for the Militia come under the Home office OFFICERS 1782-1840 HO50 and HO51 After 1865 names of officers are in the Army List. Incomplete records of service 1757 -1925 WO 68 Registers of pensions 1868-1892 WO23/89-92 A selection of birth certificates 1788-1866 WO32/8906-8913 OTHER RANKS Most useful are attestation forms 1906-1915 WO96 Soldiers documents 1760-1854 WO97/1091-1112 -mostly irish regiments Muster books and pay lists WO13 In your shoes I'd try a search at http://catalogue.pro.gov.uk/ for the surname and see what comes up. If you get too many hits, restrict the search to HO in the third box and then in a separate search the surname and WO. Email me direct if you need any info from the book - always assuming NTL is functioning at more than half speed!
