The number of poor was considerable. The were labourers and mechanics in and near the town of Ballyshannon. The people in the country parts raised potatoes and a little flax. They were in fairly good health and the most commondisease was rheumatism. Ballyshannon villages were Mobuy, Kildoney, the hamlets of Carricknahorna, Behy, Tullyhork, Knather, Cortia and Lisahully.
