Hello to all, I’m up for any insight into my family line. I believe Michael SWEENEY, his wife Bridget MCCART and their three children came to Cleveland Ohio in 1840. Because the 1840 census only lists head of household it only lists Michael Sweeney, wife and two children. I have since come to believe that in March 1847 as listed on the NARA site Michael Sweeney, wife Bridget and two of their three children Mary and Alex are traveling to the U.S. with James Sharkey, wife (who was a Sweeney) and one year old daughter Ann Sharkey. What makes me think it’s my family is on the passenger list James, Mary, and Mary are on one page and one year old daughter Ann is 2 pages down listed with the Michael Sweeney family. Now I’m confused, do I have Michael Sweeney and family in 1840 Ohio census returning to get the Sharkey family? How likely was it Michael would earn enough passage as a Mason in Cleveland to return 7 years later to Ireland? Also why would they take 2 of their three children with them on this voyage back? In the 1900 Cleveland Ohio census Michael’s son Patrick is recorded as entering the country in 1840 so I’m not going on the 1840 census alone. I was mostly wondering the likelihood of a family returning in an effort to retrieve family? Any insight is appreciated, Thanks, Cindy --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
