Marilyn I don't know if you have tried records at the National Archives in Kew in London. www.pro.gov.uk I have not researched a revenue boatman but you might find the leaflet on Customs , Excise and Revenue gives you more places to look. I did some research on a Customs Officer and found his application with father's signature and details of birth. You can also if you are lucky, find where children were born when you find the various postings - Customs officers were posted all over the country. You also might want to try searching Admiralty records for the seafaring brothers - although they might not have been in the navy.
