    3. Hi, I've managed to trace my John McFaden and Susan Shields back to Donegal abt 1798, a g-daughter was born in Milltown ? abt 1839. the family then moved backed to Scotland, ( we think they came from Argyll originally). Son John married an Ann(ie) McCallum (or McCallian) abt 1830. Her parents were Patrick and Elizabeth (Brown). Both the names John McFaden and Patrick McCallum are on the role of the Argyllshire Regiment 1794. Can't make any connection as yet, but think that it could be them. I'm looking for any other McFaden, or McPhaiden from Donegal in this time sphere. Janette

    3. Dea Janette You said "I'm looking for any other McFaden, or McPhaiden from Donegal in this time sphere" VIZ 1798 to 1830 and beyond and mentioned Milltown There is a Milltown, five kilometres west of Letterkenny. Townlands called Milltown can be found in the parishes of in Convoy, Conwal, Donegal,Gartan, Killymard and Raphoe see the URLs http://www.dun-na-ngall.com/town.html and http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bhilchey/DonegalMain.html#Civil%20Parish%20Map There are no McFadens, or McPhaidens in the entire Republic of Ireland according to UKINFO and no McPhaidens and only 17 McFadens in all of the UK Viz MCFADEN,RUSSELL,127,,HURST GROVE,,MK404DW,,BEDFORD, MCFADEN,BERNADETTE,16,,TARQUIN CLOSE,,CV3 3BW,,COVENTRY, MCFADEN,LISA M,6,,CHEPSTOW CLOSE,,S40 2UG,,CHESTERFIELD,DERBYSHIRE MCFADEN,ALEXANDER W S,15,,MAPLE GROVE,,RG264ND,,TADLEY,HAMPSHIRE MCFADEN,MARIA J,3,,AINSDALE CLOSE,01303275709,CT195LU,,FOLKESTONE,KENT MCFADEN,STUART C,3,,AINSDALE CLOSE,01303275709,CT195LU,,FOLKESTONE,KENT MCFADEN,DIANNE,50,,STRICKLAND WAY,,BR6 9UE,,ORPINGTON,KENT MCFADEN,EDITH J,87,,YORKLAND AVENUE,,DA162LG,,WELLING,KENT MCFADEN,DENISE A,70,,CHURCHILL ROAD,,PE9 1JG,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,STEPHEN W,70,,CHURCHILL ROAD,,PE9 1JG,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,GAY D,2,,NAIRN ROAD,,PE9 2YR,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,WILLIAM,2,,NAIRN ROAD,,PE9 2YR,,STAMFORD,LINCOLNSHIRE MCFADEN,DENNIS,,ATHELSTAN HOUSE, FLAT 39,HOMERTON ROAD,,E9 5PH,,LONDON, MCFADEN,ANGELA R,22,,NEIDPATH COURT,,TD1 3RD,TWEEDBANK,GALASHIELS,SELKIRKSHIRE MCFADEN,ALEXANDER S,22,,NEIDPATH COURT,,TD1 3RD,TWEEDBANK,GALASHIELS,SELKIRKSHIRE which includes one Janet McFadden in Brighton whose address I have discretely left out Your best bet would be to try the online Griffiths to trace any McFaddens, McCallums and Browns in County Donegal 1847-1864. People who married generally did so to people living nearby (in Ireland at that time). The McCallums and Browns should still appear in the 1847-1864 Griffiths after the McFaddens left for Scotland after 1839. The 1847-1864 Griffiths valuation has now appeared online in a searchable format at the URL www.otherdays.com. This has opened the field up a lot to a structured computer based search strategy using Civil and RC Parish maps on URL http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/sitemap.htm, modern OS maps available on http://.uk2multimap.com and the old Griffith's Valuation maps available from the www.otherdays.com site. It is possible to use the Otherdays Griffiths for 72 hours on payment of an $8 fee and carry out a search for a person without prior knowledge of the townland, Parish or Barony - just the County. It is also possible to specify a search using variations of the persons name. Enter Burns and a search will be carried out for Burn, Byrne and Burns. The otherdays site also lets you printout copies of the original Griffiths documents. You can search for all the McCallums and Browns and their name variations in County Donegal in the period 1847-1864 who owned land, or more likely rented land.
