    3. Its over! They should be pretty much back to normal now - I had a friend waiting on the strike to end and he sent this on 10 April - "We thought the postal dispute was settled - but it's not quite settled yet. The management of "An Post" tried to hire 200 casual workers for a period of three or four weeks to clear the backlog. The Postal Workers Union objected and trotted out an agreement that they negotiated some years ago, i.e., "that casual workers must be employed for a minimum of seven months" ! So negotiations are continuing and the backlog is being cleared slowly and the seals that were placed on post boxes were only removed a couple of days ago. The postal workers also have an agreement that anyone asked to work overtime (no matter how little) must be paid a minimum of three hours - presumably at the enhanced rate. One postal worker made ¬56,000 extra on overtime last year. No wonder An Post lost over ¬40million last year." I did eventually get the parcel my friend posted to me :-) All the best, Lindel patrick haynes wrote: >Can any one tell me if the strike at the Dublin mail office has ended or is mail entering Ireland from overseas still being held up. > Patrick Haynes > > >==== DONEGALEIRE Mailing List ==== >To browse through the archives of the list go to >http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl >Visit my homepage at http://freepages.genealogy.com/~donegaleire > >============================== >Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration >Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial.
