    3. I am searching for a placename that sounds like "Clegan" as recalled by my grandfather, Samuel COOK. He was born around 1847. His father, Samuel COOK, died the same year. His mother, Rebecca ANDERSON, possibly from the Isle of Inch, remarried to a William MCLAUGHLIN, and they emmigrated to Canada shortly afterward. In 1911 he wrote down what he had heard of his background, and among other sketchy information, included his understanding of his birthplace, as follows: "I was born at Clegan, about one and a half miles from the town of Milford, which is some four miles from the town of Ramelton and that would be, I think, some eight or ten miles from Londonderry, in county Donegal. Was christened when six or eight months old by a Mr. White, Presbyterian minister. That will be recorded at Milford church. As I was not expected to live at the time they likely took me there to be christened. It may, however, have been at Clegan." My search needs to start with a place sounding like Clegan, fitting the above description, and I have not been able to find such a place on the sites I've searched on the internet. I have also been unable to find a Prebyterian church active in Milford, where I might search for a christening record. I would be very grateful if anyone has any information that can shed some light on this place, or any suggestion as to where I might look for his birth records. Kindest regards, Margaret in Canada

    3. Hello Jess I have located two Claggan's for you. One in the Parish of Tullyfern and one in the Parish of Clondavaddog ( now spelt Clondavaddock ) Both are in the Poor Law Union of Milford. At Tullyfern the Presbyterian church is at Milford Baptisms :- 1827 - 1952 ; marriages 1827 - 1842 and 1846 - 1955 Communicants Roll 1805 - 1901 and 1933 - 1942 In the Parish of Clondavaddog the Presbyterian Church is at Milford. I think this will be the one for you as A Rev Robert White was there during the time of your ancestor. Baptisms for this church are 1839 - 1902 Marriages 1845 - 1927. All of these Church Records can be consulted at the Public Record Office, Balmoral Avenue. Belfast. Northern Ireland. You may have to consult Church of Ireland Records as well.
