The little coal mining town of Summit Hill in Carbon County, PA is said to have had many of its people emigrate from Donegal. My own ancestors McHughs and Gallaghers came there from somewhere in southwest Donegal. Adjoining towns like Mauch Chunck in Carbon County and towns in neighboring Schuylkill County also had many, many coal miners who were of Irish descent. There were many patch towns in the region. Further to the north Scranton and Hazelton were also large mining centers.
