Well! Thanks for the help I got - I was starting to get myself all confused - it looks like 3rd degree would be 2nd cousins, with a common gr grandparent - 4th degree would mean the couple has a gr gr grandparent in common. One of the marriages I have has 3rd and 4th degree consanguinity between the couple, which looks to mean they were 2nd cousins once removed. Its going to be fun sorting this lot out but at least I have a better idea of it now. Thanks to everyone who emailed! All the best, Lindel
